Figured this was as good a day as any to give life to an idea I’ve had floating around in my head for a Circle of Spores druid.
This is Cordelia Strain, a professional pretentious nerd doctor and herbalist dedicated to finding non-magical cures for various ailments. She detests the simplistic view of her society towards disease and injury, which is that there’s no need to understand how these things happen so long as magic will cure it. She knows that not all people just have a cleric lying around, and she wants to advance non-magical medicine.
Not long ago she was traveling looking for exotic plants that might be used for medicinal purposes and stumbled across a strange mushroom. Back home she studied it and found that it probably wouldn’t be useful for healing, so she disregarded it...until there was an accident in her lab and she broke the jar she was keeping it in. The spores escaped and infected her, and she, after determining that this probably wasn’t going to kill her, started trying to figure out what exactly these spores were doing to her.
She learned the mushroom was magic, and that the spores were giving her arcane abilities. Annoyed by this, she decided not to let it distract her and decided to continue her previous search as planned (and perhaps try to learn more about her own mushrooms in the process.)
She feels magic is a crutch, and if there is a non-magical solution, they ought to seek that out first, because one never knows when their power may be stripped from them.
