Let's face it, buying gifts for men is tough. For the women in your life, beauty products, accessories, jewellery: the possibilities are endless. But for me, at least, men are an enigma when it comes to finding the perfect present: WHAT DO THEY WANT?
Aside from buying some new lingerie, I've struggled in the past to think of a good gift. But struggle no more! I've scoured the shops to find my top-five guy-gifts, which are romantic and personal without being too soppy. You're welcome.
1) Pixel Heart Morph Mug, £10, Oliver Bonas
One for the tech-lover in your life, this mug is gimicky in a good way. The design starts out as a plain black pixel-style heart on a white mug, but once hot liquid is poured inside, the red heart reveals itself! Perfect for serving him a cup of coffee on V-Day morning (and then he can make you breakfast!)
2) My Side, Your Side Pillowcases, £26, notonthehighstreet.com
This is an inside joke amongst many couples, whatever way round the emphasis falls. If he starfishes all over the bed, use these pillowcases as a gentle reminder for him to keep his arms (and legs, and feet...) to himself. If you, on the other hand, are the one who takes up all the room, these provide a sweet confirmation that things aren't about to change! Bonus - they can be personalised with your names!
3) Watch with Rose Gold Detail, £25, ASOS
A good watch makes a stylish man. And let's face it, unless he's a major chrono-phile, a watch is not necessarily going to be high up on his list of priorities ("but I can just check my iPhone..!"). However, there will be added sentimental value if you purchase him this black watch from ASOS. The rose gold detail makes it for me. At the very least, he won't be late for dinner.
4) Korres Men's Kit, £19, Oliver Bonas
Not all men use products. Some are more wash-and-go types (and some aren't even that). However, whether your man is already a product-devotee, or if you want to introduce him to that world, this well thought out kit from Korres is a go-to. Containing five products, including a showergel, a shampoo and an after-shave balm, this little kit could be the prod he needs to turn him into a groomed-god. And they smell incredible...
5) Secret Message Valentine's Chocolates, £14.95, notonthehighstreet.com
Chocolate's are pretty-much a safe bet, all things considered, if you've really not got a clue what to buy. This box ups the ante somewhat, with the addition of a personalised message, wrapped up in a little scroll. Please his stomach and his heart at the same time!
I hope those suggestions make your V-Day less hassle! Now all that's left is to email him a link to that necklace you want...
Do you ever get the feeling when you look into your wardrobe that everything you own screams 'I've been worn at least fifty times, and there are more holes in my fabric than is strictly socially acceptable?' Yeah. I've had that feeling for the last couple of weeks. Fortunately, that tells me it's time for an overhaul and revamp of my look, in keeping with all things SPRING!
Therefore, I've been scouring the shops in search of items that will banish the boredom, and freshen up my look with some much needed zing. Here is a run-down of my top five spring must-haves from the latest high street offerings.
1) Kiss Print Shirt, £39.50, Oliver Bonas
With V-Day just around the corner, having a significant other is almost irrelevant if you have this shirt instead. Who needs someone to kiss you, when you can kiss yourself? The fabric is super-lightweight, but the long sleeves give coverage, making this shirt perfect for the unpredictable weather of late. Wear under a cosy pastel cardi for a sugary-sweet look.
2) Light Blue Coat, £49.99, H&M
Last year was all about the pink coat. This year, my bet is on baby blue. Half pea-coat, half princess-coat means that the cut of this little number is structured without being too severe. Throw out your boring duster coat, and chuck this over your office clothes instead. If it's good enough for Jourdan...
3) Zip Front Floral Dress, £49.50, Oliver Bonas
I make no secret of the fact that I adore my black opaque tights (200 denier? yes please). They are leg-lengthening, warm, and hide a multitude of fake-tanning sins. The spring months, however, bring me the dilemma of being forced to forgo the tights, or wear them with clashing, delicate pastels. Not so with this dress! The floral print is bold, and the skater-style is a winner for pretty much all silhouettes.
4) Skater Dress with Dipped Hem, £48, ASOS
Speaking of floral skater dresses, you can never (in my book) have too many. Cue this little number from ASOS. The combo of high-neck and short-hem line is the fastest track to sex appeal rather than curb appeal. Granted, the punchy baroque-style florals will not be to everyone's taste, but in the vast universe of spring day dresses ("florals for spring? groundbreaking.") this one at the very least stands apart.
5) Heart Print Dress, £49.50, Oliver Bonas
February, as I've mentioned, is a time when the love in the air either woos you or chokes you. If it's the latter, I suppose you could wear this ironically, but if it's the former, this knee-length heart print shift will see you through spring. This is a classically cut, demure kind of dress, but the whimsical print makes it more than that. With a skinny belt and heels, this could be your go-to for your hot V-Day date.
I hope you enjoyed my run-down of those pieces! Feel free to comment, or message me for more details!
