Tif Hunter
The talented Tif Hunter, who was one of our Calm Photography Movement photographers, had an Open Studio this weekend and we went along to see him in action shooting his incredible and truly unique, tintype portraits.
Tif works from Bermondsey Studios in London. We watched him create a portrait of a gentleman whose great-grandfather started a photographic business in Hungry that is still going making him the fourth generation!
Tintypes are handmade, one-off images created using a 19th century technique developed in the early days of photography.
By combining this with 21st century lighting and sensibilities, Tif is creating unique images of timeless beauty that borrow from photography's past, but are very much of the present.

Thank you Tif for the incredible experience and for being part of TCPM!

But before Kodak, and long before Apple, photography was a laborious endeavor. Negativeless, a recent show at the Michael Hoppen Gallery in London, presented early, pre-negative photography alongside the work of contemporary artists who, harkening back to the medium’s beginnings, also work sans negatives.
