Video by @jim_abernethy // Here is a beautiful night dive scene with a Lemon shark receiving some love and affection! Sharks are sentient creatures like all animals and truly enjoy this! Since 2002 I've been using love and affection to gain the sharks trust in order to remove their hooks! I've removed hundreds of hooks from 9 species so far! Infact I removed another one this past trip! For the last 7 years I've been teaching my guests how to make friends with sharks without feeding them with tremendous success! Image by @Jim_abernethy // Yesterday, Pia Ramirez from @rangoextendido gave her new lemon shark friend "Star" some Love and Affection! For almost 8 years now I've been teaching my guests how to make friends with sharks using love and affection like you see here! Once the sharks have had Love and Affection they seek out their new human friend out in order to get more! Having my guests helping me get the sharks to trust us greatly accelerates the rate at which I'm able to remove their hooks! I discovered the affectionate side of sharks 20 years ago in 2002 while successfully trying to remove a hook from a lemon shark! Since then I have removed hundreds of hooks from 8 different species. No doubt this removes the pain from the shark as well as finally allowing the injury to heal, but it also has a huge affect on that person's future. These very lucky people usually channel their new found shark love into shark conservation! Nothing could make me happier! What seems so strange is that I don't know of a single person worldwide that teaches anyone how to make friends with any predator, yet we are doing this using the animals that our species is the most afraid of! This clearly shows that the misconception that sharks have been labeled (mindless man-eating monsters) is definitely wrong! This means quite a lot to me, as it is very difficult to get people who hate sharks to protect them! As Jacques Cousteau said "We only Protect What We Love!" What do you think of all this? This is known as "The Emma Kiss Scene" from the film This is your Ocean: Sharks! In this scene Emma the 15ft Tiger Shark, my friend of nearly 20 years kisses me twice on the forehead! I was inspired to put this film together in order to convince the Bahamas Government to protect sharks their entire country during our shark conservation campaign of "Worth More Alive"! We were successful and on July 7, 2011 the Brilliant Bahamian government protected all the sharks in their entire country! Ecotourism is the key to saving our wildlife as unfortunately our species only cares about money! By spending money going shark diving, sharks are worth more and easier to protect!
