Hope to see you with GWS's soon! “While most of the world is consumed by the fear of being eaten by a shark, the truth is that sharks don't really eat people...the truth is, it is MAN eating sharks needlessly into extinction! The truth is in the statistics! Humans go in the water 8 billion times a year and from that 85 people are mistakenly bitten by a shark and less that 5 on average die from these mistakes...that are most commonly referred to as shark attacks. If even 1 of over 500 species of sharks preyed on man, we would not be able to swim in the ocean at all! Here is a comparison of some of the more dangerous animals in the US, of course saving the best for last! Dogs bite someone every 40 seconds resulting in 4 to 5 million bites and 16 to 20 deaths yearly. Cows kill 20 people yearly. Deer kill an average of 135 people yearly. 1600 people are attacked and bitten every single year in the state of New York by People! Humans are responsible for killing between 73 million to 250 million sharks every year mostly for just their fins! Let's end this needless slaughter and save our friends in the sea! Posted @withrepost • @cristinamittermeier I have been lucky enough to experience the Amazon first hand and to spend time with some of the Indigenous people who call it home. People like the Kayapó have been stewards of the rainforest for centuries. Since Jair Bolsonaro was elected as President of Brazil last year, the Kayapó have been fighting to protect it from a president who has compared Indigenous communities to animals living in zoos and who has let industry cut down more of the rainforest this summer alone than in the last three years combined. Trees are cleared to plant soy or to make room for cattle pastures. Setting fires is one of the fastest ways to make space. Fires have raged in the rainforest for longer than two weeks, and the international media is only just waking up. This could be just the beginning of an even bigger tragedy if we don't come together today and start #turningthetide. The Amazonian rainforest is the source of 20% of all oxygen on earth and a priceless carbon sink that helps draw carbon dioxide out of the air to help us in our fight against the climate crisis.
