Golf Team Update
Frank Pastula ‘19
With golf season approaching, the varsity team looks to set themselves up for success against their Catholic League rivals and to learn from last years’ losses. With the hire of assistant coach Ronald Young ‘08 early last year, the team knew they had to work on chemistry and confidence. “This offseason the team has been practicing together every chance they could get and will be far more prepared than last year,” says Co-Captain Ryan Batcheller ‘19. The squad looks to prepare mentally for this season and to learn from their mistakes that led to past losses against rivals such as Catholic Central and Brother Rice.
Diehl organized a practice session with the captains of the squad at Topgolf along with new coaches Evan Cassar ‘12 and Jeffery Rizik ‘09 to help strengthen the team’s leadership skills for the coming season. “With a predominantly young team, the cubs aren’t slowing down. They won't be satisfied until they have brought glory to the school just as in the days of Nick Bonema,” remarks team manager Ezra Houghtby ‘19. Houghtby also explained that coaches Diehl and Young have high expectations for the team this year mostly because the team hasn’t changed from last year’s squad of primarily sophomores and juniors.
Other team prospects for the coming season such as Paul Roberge and Parker Anderson have been training at winter facilities such as the Golf Leadership Academy. Roberge believes the Leadership Academy has strengthened his game saying that “this place has done wonders for me and helped me to get to a level where I can consistently compete on the varsity level.” Paul believes that GLA will be essential to the success the golf team this year. On another note contrary to rumors of retirement and a move to Florida, the team is still under the helm of Head Coach Paul Diehl. The team looks to take their hard work this off season into upcoming matches and put their foot in the door for a state title.

Starting the new year off right by getting ready for a New Year's Day dance party instead of getting over a hangover or being sick. Can't help but think the rest of the year is going to be filled with more good decisions. #doinitright #breakfastofchampions #tigerisback #goldmoment #endingvacationlikeaboss (at San Francisco, California)
