The present study was conducted at Rural Development Academy (RDA) Agricultural Farm, Kotalipara, Gopalgonj located in southern area of Bangladesh during 01 November, 2023 to 28 March, 2024 to compare the yield performance of important barley varieties and to identify the best adaptive variety of Barley for this area of Bangladesh. Five Barley variety viz. V1= BARI Barley-5, V2= BARI Barley-6, V3= BARI Barley-7, V4= BARI Barley-8, V5= BARI Barley-9 were used for the experiment. Maximum plant height during harvesting, maximum number of tillers per plant and maximum number of effective tillers per plant were recorded with V1 (100.00cm), V5 (3.99) and V3 (2.95) respectively. BARI Barley-5 performed the maximum spike length (10.90cm), maximum number of spikelet of spike (60.45), maximum number of seeds per spike (48.05) and maximum thousand seed weight (31.74gm). As a result BARI Barley-5 gave the maximum grain yield (2.72 t/ha). BARI Barley-5 (94.25 days) and the BARI Barley-8 (95.75 days) was comparatively short duration crop than other varieties. This characteristic of the crop will help to introduce the new cropping pattern in this region and it will the dependency on monocropping. As a result, it can be decided that the BARI Barley-5 was the best variety in terms of grain yield and short duration. It can be concluded that the BARI Barley-5 was the best variety for this AEZ-14 and it can be extended to the local area of Gopaganj district.
Two field experiments were conducted during the Kharif season (July-November 2014) at the Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS), BARI, Iswardi, Pabna, Bangladesh, to evaluate the effect of micronutrients on the growth and yield of transplant Aman rice (cv. BU dhan-1 and BRRI dhan-52) under calcareous soil conditions. The experiments included eight treatments: T1 = Control, T2 = Zn, T3 = Cu, T4 = B, T5 = ZnCu, T6 = ZnB, T7 = CuB, and T8 = ZnCuB, arranged in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The experimental soil was silty clay loam, moderately fertile, and part of Agro-Ecological Zone (AEZ-11). Fertilizer application included a split dose of urea (applied at transplanting, 25 DAT, and 45 DAT), with boric acid (2 g/L) sprayed at 25, 40, and 55 DAT. Data analysis using MSTAT-C revealed that micronutrient treatments significantly improved rice growth and yield. The ZnCuB treatment recorded the highest plant height (132.36 cm in BU dhan-1 and 129.44 cm in BRRI dhan-52), maximum effective tillers per hill (statistically similar to ZnB), and the longest panicle length (32.23 cm in BU dhan-1 and 30.74 cm in BRRI dhan-52). These results underscore the potential of ZnCuB as an optimal micronutrient combination for enhancing rice productivity in calcareous soils.
