How does Christ relate to us now? He sits in heaven on our behalf. He's our guarantee of a place with God. His work on the cross is complete. But it goes on speaking. It speaks to the Father as a permanent sign that the price of sin has been paid in full. And it speaks to us with a message of comfort when we're besieged with doubt.
We respond by seeing Jesus in heaven on our behalf. We give up our attempts to remove our guilt, establish our identity or prove ourselves. Instead we rest on his finished work.
And we respond with love. When we look at Jesus, seated at the Father's side, we see the Friend who laid down his life for his friends (John 15 v.12-13). We see the Husband who gave himself up for his bride (Ephesians 5 v.25). We see the Good Shepherd who laid down his life for his sheep (John 10 v.11).
