Transported Consultation Artist #06 - TIM DENTON, DRAWING MACHINES

Artist and Designer-Maker Tim Denton is profiled in film 6 of our series for Transported. Tim Denton created a number of drawing machines for the project's artist-led consultation phase that captured the imagination of children and adults a-like. From the bonkers battery operated kinetic drawing devices to use of a pantograph to do trace portraits of people in Boston Town Centre, Tim's machines got people talking about art and taking part.

In this film Tim not only demonstrates some of his devices but also discusses artist-led consultation and his thoughts on it's potentials and importance to a project like Transported.

Tim Denton's Amazing Pantograph

On the saturday of the residency we were joined in the shop by designer/artist and all round creative Tim Denton who was doing portraits of people through the window using a large specially constructed pantograph. With the pantograph you drew or traced the image of the subject on the window and this was translated through the machine onto another lever that drew on a sheet of paper.

Here two local bobbies stopped by for their portraits doing drawn by Tim's assistant, Alison.
