"How'd you mean?" Tim asked, looking over at the other with gently knit brows. "Like, older as in more mature or just older, like, with a fake ID?" He wasn't the smartest and picking up on social cues was next to impossible if they weren't obvious. "Sometimes, I have to pretend I'm old and wise, y'know, to help people out. But, I don't think I do a very good job. Like now, honestly."

"Guacamole hummus." he answered, without even having to give it much thought. "All the disappointment of hummus, with the dirt flavours of guacamole. But, without any of the freshness of pure guacamole." he shook his head. Never again. "The only good part about it? The words. Guacamole especially. What a good word." He looked over at the other and smiled gently. "You really hate it that much? What about asparagus? I think it's worse. Or, beetroot, pretty nasty."

"How could someone get hurt, ay?" he asked, his tongue idly toying with his lip piercing as he thought about the other's concern. "I mean, I guess if you didn't look after it, it could get infected or something." That was all he'd managed to come up with, but, in his many years of acquiring novelty piercings only to get rid of them after a few months, he'd never had any real problems. "Little kids get their ears pierced all the time. I think you might be overthinking it a little. I mean, no one's pressuring you to get anything, but, it's not as bad as you're thinking it is."

"Maybe that's where you went wrong, ay? Maybe instead of trying to be cool, you should just be yourself, y'know?" he sniffled and adjusted his position. He was curled up in his chair and if he stayed that way for too long it began to hurt his back, but, sitting normally was, for some reason, out of the question. "I mean, what was your long term plan? Were you just going to live a lie if it had worked out? That's no way to live. If she'd been half worth your time, you wouldn't have had to pretend at all. There's somebody out there waiting for you, man. The real you. I promise."

"I mean, yeah. Of course!" Tim urged, worried now that perhaps he'd been too enthusiastic about wanting to help her experience the joy that came with her new life in London. "Look, if I overstepped the mark, I'm real sorry. I was just excited for you, ay? Everyone's so worn out around here. It's just really amazing to see someone with light behind their eyes." Having spend his whole life in big cities, finding someone who wasn't standoffish was like finding a diamond. He didn't want to lose that so foolishly.
