An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Waking up in a hospital in the 80s, Julian and Garak feel something is wrong.
"You were in a car accident, sweetie." A blond and seemingly young doctor told him, her smile just a touch strained. "My name is Olive. Tell me, what do you remember?"
“I ... I don’t remember... I... I think my name is Julian.”
"Yes, that's right. Anything else?" She looked at the vitals being displayed on a small, rudimentary electronic console.
“I ... I’m. I think I’m ...” Julian tried to recall something, anything about himself. He held a hand up, as though it was going to reveal something. He saw the calluses on his thumbs ... “I work with my hands frequently.”

Summary:
Julian enjoys his life as the Federation representative at the Cardassia General Hospital while Garak works for the government. The only thing that can disturb their quiet domestic lives is having annoying guests for dinner... isn’t it? Though it's odd how they seem to forget so many things all the time.

Julian sank the whole bread inside the sauce and ate it with glee. "Wow, this is really quite good. And before you say anything, plenty of people do this on Earth, so I'm entitled to as well.”
Garak rolled his eyes.“Of course they do. Your planet has such strange manners.” Garak muttered as he shook his head, though the gleam in his eye made it clear he was more amused than anything else. “And my new job has been rewarding as well. I truly feel I’m helping Cardassia working in the Civil Center.”
"You always had, even back then."
Back then? What did he do back then? For some reason he was not sure what Garak’s job was when they met. Probably it was just the tiredness of the first day at the clinic, nothing grave. He sank the bread on the sauce pensively again.
