I think a lot more is going to happen during the time jump between season 4 and 5 than we think

We all know there’s always a time jump between all seasons of stranger things, usually somewhere between 6 months and a year. But with this season we’re actually getting a bit longer of a time jump correct me if i’m wrong but, i’m pretty sure they confirmed it’s a year and a half. that’s actually quite a bit of difference from past seasons.. and where we left off last season was very open ended- Mike and El weren’t speaking to each other, The upside down particles falling into the real Hawkins, the literal HELL opening up into the town and smoke in the air, etc etc.

With all of that being left untouched, do we really think things are just gonna pick up how they usually do at the start of a new season ?

Simple answer is no-

I feel like they absolutely have to give us an in depth play by play for the last year and half and definitely some flashbacks as well. A simple voice over explanation from a main character won’t do, such as Robin through a radio broadcast. I wouldn’t mind a short recap like that that but we would still need more aka flashbacks.

Now for what I think needs to be addressed that happened over that time- First off we have to address the obvious which is how the hell did they cover up the pits of hell that were opened up at the end of season 4 like we saw in the trailer? How is the town trying to recover? What research is the military doing on the gate in the middle of town? These are all things we know happen over the course of the time jump, just not how they came about.

Second they need to address what we all really want to know - What is going on with Mike and El? And how does Mike find out about the painting?

Here’s where we cross over into my theories of what could’ve happened over the time jump.

I think it’s extremely possible that Mike and El will have already broken up, like i’ve already stated- at the end of season 4 they haven’t spoken to each other much at all since Mikes phony “love” confession and, El is clearly upset while walking through the cabin past Mike and Will in one of the final scenes of the season. El has been on an independence arc since season 3 but it really started to pick up in season 4 so, i feel like it would be weird for her to just forgive mike for everything and them just be back together all problems fixed conveniently off screen. If they haven’t broken up over the time jump or if they have we need to see that conversation between them in a flashback. They can’t just expect us to think everything was just okay and fixed between Mike and El and, they’ve been continuing to put on this façade the past year and a half.

Then we have the painting, if it’s been that long since will told the lie why would it come back up after all that time? it’s possible mike takes that long to realize Will was lying, but not likely. Mikes always been a smart guy and i find it highly unlikely that he would take a year to mention the painting to El that she supposedly “commissioned” for him. I definitely think Mike will have known about the lie for quite sometime when we pick up in season 5 but, i don’t think he will have mentioned it to Will yet, as Mike is still trying to figure out what this means for him and his feelings. I think it will come up in a much later conversation between them about their feelings for each other (the love confession <3).

There is definitely more events that could have happened over the year and a half time jump we’ll be receiving, but those are the main ones I wanted to highlight ! I would love to hear any theories you guys might have on the topic :)

Imagine how Jumper would feel when she realises that she’s been helping a liar this entire time. That if Jamato told her that Spoke was in fact the one who had killed all those people back then she would’ve made the realisation that she took part in the Spoke’s burial of consequences. And now with the two clearly forming somewhat of a connection with each other it’s gonna hit even harder for her. She’d be so hard on herself for ever believing in and allying with Spoke in the first place
