Eddie wandered aimlessly, arms wrapped around herself as her eyes wandered. She noticed the odd stares and knew why; upon her shoulder sat Jareth who didn’t seem to care at all about the people who looked at him. The bird even went as far as to stretch his wings when someone shot a disgusted look their way.
Eddie ignored it all, for he was her friend and there was no way she’d leave him behind even if she lived in the area. She was snapped out of her thoughts by a soft coo in her ear, eyes flicking to look at the bird; somehow she knew what he meant though not through any kind of English translation, just a feeling.
“Fine, fine. We have a little bit of extra money, lets stop in at a cafe or something,” she told him with a sigh, rolling her shoulder to better secure her slipping bag. Her eyes rose to eye the buildings around her, but the woman didn’t recognize much at all. She doubted there’d be any such place for a while-
She froze then, blinking a few times. She recognized a face, though not personally. Flashbacks to her childhood hit her hard, the stories her parents had told her, the articles she’d stared at with such awe even before she could read the large words. A fluttery feeling started in the pit of her stomach and she swallowed; perhaps she should say hi? This was likely her only chance to say hi. You can do this, Eddie. You’ve done so much already.
With a deep breath, the girl began walking forward. The closer she got to the woman, though, the more nervous and less confident she became until she was standing almost curled in on herself, eyes downcast and teeth lightly biting her lip. Thankfully there weren’t huge crowds of people around, ‘else she’d probably be swept away and lose her chance.
“H-hi. Are you- I-I’m sorry I just thought I recognized you. Would you p-perhaps be, uh... Tracer?” she asked, fumbling on the soft words. Despite the mustered courage to speak, she sounded so small and felt so insignificant, but behind her worries was excitement, awe and glee to even be able to meet one of her heroes. She almost wanted to cry.
