“No, I thought it’d be a laugh,” Ginny snaps, more out of anxiety than anything else. “I didn’t tell you so you’d panic, I told you because I thought you’d have advice.”
There are changes in plans, and then there are changes in plans, and this is distinctly the latter. She’d gone to Hermione because at present, going to her mother is out of the question; ditto for Harry, albeit for entirely different reasons; and although she’d made a valiant effort at broaching the subject with Luna, the other woman had been decidedly preoccupied with all the dangers Wrackspurts poise to unborn children, which, while kind in its own way, is not what Ginny needs right now.
“You may not tell Ron,” she says emphatically. “I haven’t decided what I’m going to do yet.” You have options, the Healer had kept saying, over and over, until Ginny had wanted to hex her. “Haven’t told Harry,” she adds shortly. “No one knows except you and Luna.” Which might have been amusing in any other situation, but it is what it is.
She anticipates the question before it comes.
“I don’t know what I want. If we were older — if we were married, maybe.” She shrugs, staring into space. “I think I want to be a mum?” she says quietly. “And Harry would make a good dad … ”
“I’m not panicking, Gin, I’m just… surprised.” She looks at her friend, her sister in law, and thinks that maybe she’s the one panicking. Ginny is nearly two years younger than she is and so she understands this may not be an ideal situation. Especially with Molly Weasley’s somewhat judgemental tendencies.
There was really only one option in Hermione’s eyes, though Ginny may be young and unmarried (which was likely the reason she hadn’t told her own mother yet), she was an adult, in a committed relationship. Her and Harry were definitely in a position where they could financially support a child. If this had been her, Ron would be the first person she’d tell. Of course they were married, but she doubted it’d be any different if they hadn’t been.
“You have to tell Harry, Ginny. That’s my advice. This isn’t anyone’s choice but yours and his. But if you want my opinion, he will be a good father. And you’ll be a great mum.” She stepped closer to engulf the younger witch in a tight hug. “Tell Harry, you’ll figure it out together, I know you will”
