Litha- Summer Solstice (southern hemisphere witch)
Litha starts in 3 days in the southern hemisphere: 20th-23rd of December. I will be celebrating it primarily on the 20th as it is my only full day opportunity.
This is how I will be celebrating Litha: The longest day of the year, the strength of the sun, nature forces and nature guardians at their most powerful! 🐚🐝🍋🍉🌞🍓🍍🌴🌻🌽🌼☀🌺
CANDLES: Represent the sun, fire, the heat of summer- I will keep a candle lit throughout the day, maybe on my summer altar, or possibly on an outdoor altar I plan to make for Litha as I will be spending most of my day outside. I have a coconut and lime scented candle I will be using as I thought these scents represented summer pretty well, I also have orange and yellow candles to colour correspondence with the summer solstice. Bon fires are ideal although most of Australia has a fire ban in summer due to the already intense heat and dry land that is already a wild fire hazard.
INCENSE: Representing fire, smoke of the summers burning rituals and fires, air, heat- I will be using a sandalwood incense, in correspondence to Pan, the horned nature guardian of summer, and using it as an offering to the Fae, which I will get to shortly.
DECORATIONS THAT CORRESPOND: Sea shells, beach sand, candles, herbs (thyme, sage) crystals (citrine, carnelian, fire opal, quartz, fluorite, pearl, diamond, green/yellow stones, tiger eye) feathers, symbols of the sun, nature, gold stars, gold, flowers/plants/herbs (sunflowers, roses, mint, lemon, thyme, sandalwood, sage, carnations, flower crowns)
ACTIVITIES- activities for litha/ summer solstice all of which include being in the sun (after all it is the sun celebrations) so make sure you are protect your skin from harmful UV rays.
1: Collecting shells at the beach, swimming, cleansing crystals in natural sea water if you can get to the ocean.
2: Making flower crowns in the garden, gardening, watering the flowers and plants during sunrise or sunset, blowing dandelions and making wishes, putting out bird seeds and water for the birds and critters, thanking Pan the horned guardian of nature by leaving a flower crown offering, hanging in a tree, burning sandalwood in a nature space for him to smell or putting vegetable peels in your garden to give nutrition to the plants, Pan will appreciate it.
3: Meditate in the sun (but not long enough that you will be burnt) with Fluorite, quartz, citrine or other summer correspondences in your hands.
4: Eat honey, fruit, drink lemonade, ice tea, lemon water, seeded crackers, multi grain breads with cheese and herbs, drink water frequently, have a beer with a lemon or lime slice in it.
5: Make an offering to faerie folk at dusk (you may want to do some research before making an offering as they are easily offended and are quite the tricksters) offer them a Litha present, good correspondences for a Litha offering, particularly for the Fae are: Orange juice or sweet drinks, sugar, cakes, flowers, fluorite, rosemary, shiny golden things, thyme, eggshells, sea shells, small stones. DO NOT offer bread, salt or any metals especially not iron. As I said this summer solstice activity may need some research.
There are so many more Correspondences and activities and big fancy rituals to enjoy including Pan rituals for Litha, these are just some simple ideas that I liked. 💚🐳🍹🌵🌞🌅🌾🎉🐦🍀🌸💙
Below is my summer altar, I will make a new one outside in the sun on the 20th, as I will be spending my Litha time, outdoors.
Just a lil’ something cause I love fall and witches.
