Calen ran close to the new fairy as soon as she heard the crying, both worried about whatever made the —until then silent— guy cry so loud, and relieved to hear him finally reacting to something.
She was expecting the crying to be his only response, and thought he would go back to stay as quiet and unresponsive as he has since he arrived days before, but to her surprise, he actually looked at her with wide, tearful eyes.

Am I… am I still dreaming? Nepeta thought to himself, staring at the other fairy in front of him. She couldn’t be from his memories, as he had never seen a pot marigold fairy before, with this long dress-like petal in such a strong orange.
“He is awake!” She shouted happily, and he was too surprised to flinch, or maybe he was just too tired, he looked down and wiped away his tears. “Hey, hey, look at me. I’m so glad you woke up! I’m Calen, you’ll meet the others soon.”
“Hi-Hi?” Nepeta tried, the sudden lack of hostinly caught him off guard. He looked around to the little bed he was on, and the little petals around it, an old fairy tradition to wish healthy, the petals were different from the ones in his hometown, but the gesture meant the same. It made Nepeta calm down a little bit.
“Where-where?”
“In Cindy’s house, she is a great person! You’ll love her,” Calen said happily, her dress-like petals moved prettily whenever she moved.
Right, a woman stole me from Lix, yeah there was that, yeah I’m owned by someone else now, even if I’m not the only fairy here I’m still not free. He took a deep breath to stop shaking.
The other fairy was calm and not visibly hurt. Did this mean she wouldn’t hurt him? Maybe this Cindy didn’t hurt the others but she is a cat person and he seems to make an effect on cats.
“I’m- I’m Nepeta, I- how long?”
“A few days, it’s okay! Take it easy!” Calen said with a big smile, “Things will be okay now, your wounds are healing well, and Cindy won’t let you get hurt again.”
Nepeta kept wiping the tears away from his eyes, trying to decide if this was real or a cruel prank his mind was playing, he wanted to believe them, he truly wanted to. He wanted to go back to being the full of hope, naive little Nepeta that believed in everything. But he would never be like that again, would he?
While he was thinking more fairies came to view; a mint one, called Tinar, a daisy one, called Bell. They were as calm and happy as Calen was, they also talked to Cindy as if she was a sweet woman, Nepeta didn’t tell that his only memory of her was when he was cursing at her friend.
After a few moments, the cat woman also came to view, and Nepeta flinched hard before hiding behind Calen like a selfish child, he looked around, trying to read the room, no one else was scared. Bell and Tinat looked down at him with a worried look.
“It’s okay,” Calen said, turning around and opening her arms to a hug, in which Nepeta’s body threw itself before his mind could think about it, only then the other fairy touched him.
The touch was so warm, so so warm and safe. Calen had such a natural and safe smell, and Nepeta couldn’t help but want to believe her every word.
“She won’t hurt you,” She said, caressing his back. “Cindy, maybe you-”
“Yeah, I’ll be back later,” Cindy’s voice was almost as warm as Calen’s touch. “No worries, newcomer, I don’t hurt people, so I won’t hurt you.”
People. Does she think of me as a person? Am I really a person? He wanted to say he is a fairy and fairies aren’t people, but all his loved ones were fairies too, and he couldn't bring himself to deny that they were people.
“You are safe now, Nepeta,” Tinar said, joining the hug, his smell was refreshing and Nepeta allowed himself to feel it fully. Like a wave of energy that he needs so much.
“S-sorry,” he managed after a while, “S-she left because of me. I’m sorry.”
“No worries,” Bell said with a soft voice, “It’s not your fault, and things are okay now. Also, Cindy is really busy so she will probably leave soon.”
Nepeta nodded and —against all reason— he allowed himself to believe it a little bit.
