over the past few years, she’d found that new york had become a hub for some ... out of the ordinary activity. from what her miniselves had reported to her after some number of trips to&from the city, there was an increase in, what could only be called, SUPERHEROICS. something she’d thought only contained to chi- ldren’s entertainment ( though, the same could be said of her&her colleagues ) .
though, now, to see it with her very eyes ...
❝ well, what do you know. ❞

The rain was a welcome change. Not only was it cleansing to her, but it helpedwash away the evidence that they’d been running, been fighting for so long. Rainwas a luxury at this point, one she craved and could never get enough of. It wassomething that she couldn’t pass up, and she had run hands through the, now, short blonde hair. It had been grabbed, one too many times, and Tony had foughther to cut it. To protect her. He’d been terrified that day, she’d seen it all too easily.
But he’d been the one to sit behind her, to cut it short, and held her after, when thetears had no other place to go but out, too long of being held in. He’d been just asquiet, not asking any questions, and it had been a quiet night they’d actually duginto the alcohol reserve they had. It had been needed at that point.
Now, she hates how easily she’s put to tears now, how quickly they come, andhow she can’t even control them. Kalli senses him step up behind her, and thewoman turns in his embrace, glad the rain hides her tears, this time.
A laugh she can’t quite stop, muffled as it is, as she sees him already soaked, the eyebrow raising in silent question.
“Looks like you finally got that shower you wanted, custos mi.”
She can’t help but wrap arms around his neck, wanting to just be close, to keepthe last man she actually cares about near. They’ve gone through too much, andher lips pressed to his, and she knew he’d feel the tremble of her lips, eyes tryingto slide shut before he could comment on the tears. She could only hide so muchfrom him, and even then she loathed doing so.
Fingers had just curled into his hair, trying to lose herself in the arms, and in thekiss, of the man before her, trying to forget that they were alone in a desolate hellof a world now, and just focus on the fact that, somehow, despite all of the oddsthrown at them, they were alive.

12: Chest Kiss
It had been close, far too close for either of their likings. How Kalli had managed to carry him this far, she wasn’t entirely sure, but they both chalked it up to adrenaline and left it atthat. They were lucky the house was left soabandoned as it was, that there were no infected,or other survivors with the same idea.
It was a break from the weather, the biting wind, and it did look like rain would hit some time before the sun woke tomorrow.
For now, though, her main concern was Tony. She'd managed to get him on his back, and the blood soaked shirt was pulled aside, itwas just something she'd have to expend more of her magic to clean. But she saw the problem on his torso, and she frowned.
"You have to be more careful, I can't always carry you to a safe place like this. Just lie still, I should have this fixed fairly quick, I promise."
She looked down to him, the small painedsmile there as she settled next to him, taking one hand in hers, squeezing to reassure him she was there, as the other hand settled on his chest, just below wherethe bandit had lashed out, had gotten Tonywith the machete, just below the Reactor.
Fingertips brushed it, a soft sound there whenshe heard the strained noise he gave. It took a moment, focusing, before the energy was there, coaxing skin to stitch back together, to mendthe wrong that was done.
Lips ghosted over the reactor, a gentle touchto the no doubt pain of his body forcibly healingitself, and she felt his grip tighten on her hand. Itdid not take long, though her eyes drooped, and it was obvious the exhaustion was settling in, asher head lowered, resting upon his chest, her body leaning into the side of his, and she gave a quiet sigh.
She felt the shift last minute, of arms curling aroundher, keeping her close, as she pressed her lips to hischest once more.
"Rest, Tony. I cannot sense anyone close. Not for some miles, we should be good for a few hours if nothing else."
Eyes fluttered closed, leaning further into him, as shegave a soft hum, and listened to his heartbeat level outfrom the prior frantic state, relaxing with the glow of thereactor. The night light that had saved her sanity so far.
Running Scared
Bare feet slap an uneven rhythm against the pavement, she's running for the last safe place she can think of. She can't change, she's stuck in this clumsy form, and it's sheer luck alone she doesn't go crashing into the floor once the door permits her entrance, and she's left leaning against the wall, trying to regain her bearings..
She had no way of letting Tony know she was coming ahead of time, of what had happened. She hardly believed it herself, that the dead had come back, had risen once more, and were hell bent on attacking those still alive. She'd narrowly avoided a few herself, and could only hope word had reached the news, and Tony was already sitting watching it, like always.
It took some time for JARVIS to help get her to the main room, and she sat on one of the couches, curling into herself, and trembling, as she tried to distract herself, toying with her hair in an absent manner.
When the sound of footsteps registered, though, she glanced up, the paranoia there before she remembered she was safe here. She was countless feet in the air, there were no problems, not that Tony would allow it anyways. A shaky smile was all she could offer, unable to shake the tears right on the edge.
"I didn't know where else to go, I'm so sorry. If you would rather I can leave I just...I don't know what's going on anymore, Tony."
She was shaking still, tucking down into the couch, trying to shrink the best she could, as she watched him, hands clasped nervously in her lap, and nails bit into skin..
"New year, new beginning right?" He seems to consider the words, smirking a little as he does. "New policy for me too. No more letting the world kick my ass. That simple."
Dear Tony
Dear Tony,
I'm doing what is right.
Thank you for trying to talk sense into me in that lab.
I realize now you were correct. I just wish you would see it.
Sam
