A big part for many in D&D is the nice, shiny dice~ Many enjoy finding sets that match their individual characters. It's just such a fun personal touch! Usually though, I don't really buy sets for characters (with the exception of one), but I have sometimes been tempted. They have just turned out to be a bit pricey... But anyways, I thought it would be fun to try and draw what I would imagine for my characters if they got to have their own completely personalised dice sets, perfect for them!
Forest gnome, eldritch knight fighter
I've seen some really cool forest dice that I would love for Veta, but they don't encompass all of her. Her nature is much less tranquil than that of the forest she protects. So, I tried to make the base of the dice somewhat resemble those pretty forest ones, gave them a splash of reddish brown for the tree trunks, as well as to get some red in there, as red's Veta's colour, which is also reflected in the numbers. The gold flakes are the sunlight filtering through the leaves, but I was also thinking of making something like streaks of gold to more closely mimic the lightning that Veta likes to throw around. I can still pretend it's also lightning
The last touch, which I debated a lot with myself if I wanted to do, was give the d20 a personal symbol in place of the 20 number. I'd already made most of the sets and I thought it might take longer than I cared for, but I'm glad I did! Veta of course gets a battleaxe!
Tzippi is the only one I actually bought a specific set for. I'd found some mini dice in blue and metallic grey marble, which suits them pretty well. I really like the mini dice sets for small characters as an extra touch xD Could be fun if these and Veta's were small too, but I imagine in reality it'd be difficult to get to look right at such a small scale.
Anyways, Tzippi's are blue 'cause that's their colour, then copper flakes that both give a nice contrast to the blue, is close to Tzippi's secondary colour, and also represents some of the metals they work with, just like the metal/silver coloured numbers. They largely look like a set I've saw that I thought was perfect for them, just with golden flakes instead. And of course a cog for their symbol~
Half-elf, drow, warlock, the undying patron
To begin with, I made that non-transparent, marbled look that's common to find, but then realised that out of all my characters, if anyone should have transparency in their dice, it should be the one tied to ghosts! (that, and I also just really enjoy the half transparent, but mostly filled, look, which you might have noticed)
I gave these dice Melany's colour purple, of course, and the crackling green energy she wields. Then, the numbers are coloured in silver for her worship of Eilistraee, with the symbol being her ghost familiar~
Human wizard, school of abjuration, but deals a lot in fire and necromancy
Had a bit of a tricky time with Alice's set, first of all just finding som colours I was happy with (I thought it would be easy though...) The red fill and the gold flakes is of course fire, but I decided to throw a bit of purple in there (could probably be a bit clearer) for a sense of magic energy that also looks a bit dark, matching the numbers' dark purple for that necrotic feel.
I had a lot of trouble deciding on her symbol. A flame was obvious, but she's more than just fire magic. I tried to make a symbol that looked a little like a shield and also a magic symbol to represent abjuration magic, but it just didn't work. A shield made me think of a fighter rather than a wizard. Tried a skull too, but it felt too close to Melany's ghost symbol. So, I settled on a flame. I still really like their overall look though~
Elf, oracle, lunar revelation, follower of Desna (Pathfinder)
I decided to make a set for Chase too, even though I don't play them anymore and I'm not sure if we get back to that game. I really liked the idea of the look though~ The concept is very simple, it's basically just the night sky, since Chase is tied heavily to Desna, the moon goddess and goddess of dreams (among other things, but that's what Chase was connected to).
For the symbol of their d20 I was also thinking about drawing a butterfly as that is Desna's symbol. I didn't, just because I like the moon, but it would probably feel more personalised and less simply "a night sky die" (then again, I guess Tzippi's and Alice's could also just be Fire and Artificer dice). Still, I really like how it came out, especially with the silver flakes being either clouds, stars, or even butterfly dust! Whichever you imagine~
I hope you all enjoy them as I had a really fun time making them!~
