dallas can’t say he has ever been in this situation, but being alone for the past hour has driven him insane. he feels like his world has changed more than it should have after his conversation with marleigh. after all, she is the one having the baby, something that can cause one of life’s most significant changes. and yet, dallas is the one freaking out. he had returned to his room and suddenly, he became overwhelmed, the depth of the situation finally sinking in after letting it stew within his thoughts for a bit. why did the kid have to be brodie’s? that’s his only question, the only thing that kept plaguing his thoughts as he paced about his room. had marleigh’s baby been conceived with anyone else, there wouldn’t be a problem. he and marleigh could be together, he would be her number-one support system, he’d even be prepared to help her raise her child, start a family. what else would he do, anyways? he’s not going back to boston and he cares about marleigh immensely; in fact, that sounds like the perfect future. but no, by some twist of wickedly ill fate, the child belongs to his best friend. dallas knows the logical thing to do is to walk away and give marleigh his support from afar, but emotionally, he’s angry. angry that he can’t have the girl of his dreams, but mostly angry at himself, for putting marleigh in this situation, and for letting all of this happen behind his best friend in the world’s back. he should have been smart and left marleigh alone in the beginning, but he’d fucked it all up the minute he’d selfishly agreed to see her again after their first meeting. that notion is what has just led him to brooke’s door. he’s angry, unable to turn his mind off, unable to keep still; he needs a distraction, and he knows brooke can be a hell of a distraction for him. “brooke,” he calls out firmly, though his tone is flat, as he knocks on her door. “it’s dallas, open up.”
