Short over long. Simple over complicated.

Catchy, easy to remember, cool.

What’s special about your wip that can catch the reader’s attention

A title that gives away what kind of genre it is (something about love for romance, something about magic for fantasy etc)

Combine any of the above into an intriguing collocation

Brainstorm all relevant words, symbols and above elements, write them in a column and play around with them

Write the book you want to read.

This tip really resonated with me because all my life I’ve been told to “write the book I think I should read”. All my life, I’ve felt caged and enclosed. Not just because my family is very close but because my family sometimes pushed and forced their ideals onto me. It felt almost like I wasn’t allowed to have ideas of me own at times. And for a long time I didn’t think I ever would. But now, I have an idea of how I’m going to think for myself and write my own story because I want to write it I want to do it. I’m going to tell stories through my artwork that are important to me because that’s what I want. I’m going to live the life I want to live; I’m going to make the memories that I want to remember because I can.

Tip 3: Nothing is actually as impossible as it sounds. I had an exam yesterday that I thought I was completely unprepared for but when I sat down, I realized I was able to actually write 4 essays in 3 hours and had more things left over to say. If something feels overwhelmingly impossible here’s what you should do:

1. Breathe. Take deep breathes and try to calm down.

2. If that doesn’t work, call a friend and vent - they’ll be able to tell you exactly what it is you should be telling yourself.

3. Budget a distraction: a 22 minute episode of the Big Bang Theory, going to the bar quiz with your friends (we didn’t rank - I guess that’s why nobody expected anything from the Spanish InQUIZition), read a book, etc. It’ll help you detach yourself from the problems at hand.

4. Plan your time. Remember my favourite sticky notes? Use those to budget your day and give yourself realistic goals.

5. If nothing else works, talk to your professors or welfare in college. Most campus’ have systems in place to help with student stress and teachers are generally quite understanding.
