hello!! what are some general colouring tips that you'd like to share :3
Hii!!
Ahh gosh, let me think:
Something that I recommend doing is picking one main color to be the focus of the picture, and then working around it with picking other colors that compliment it, but don't compete with it. It simplifies the image and puts focus on what you want to show. For example, in all of those drawings I put red as the main point of the image to serve as the center of attention, while all the other colors are much darker and simpler
Use contrast between your objects vs your backgrounds with colors and with shading. If the objects are dark, the background should be bright and vice versa. It helps to show the silhouette better:
Color your lineart - it makes such a difference in making the drawing look finished:
For shading faces, it makes a big difference to use references to help yourself! I recommend this head lighting model!
If you need ideas to come up with color palettes, there are a lot of fun resources you can use for inspiration, such as cinema palettes or filmgrab!!
And yeah, that would be it hah
If you are more interested in specific color stuff, I would honestly recommend just going on youtube and watching some videos about color theory in art, since they are much better at explaining it than me 😅 For example this one or this one!
i've been making custom content for almost a year now, so i thought it might be helpful to start sharing little things i've learned to do in blender! i created this step-by-step guide on how to remove seams from a maxis mesh and how to edge split parts of meshes which should appear "crisp." i think they really help to make custom content look neater in-game.
you don't need to do this if you're making recolors, but if you export the mesh from sims 4 studio (i.e. to make something from a pack base game compatible), these seams will appear.
i hope this is helpful for others who are starting off editing maxis meshes themselves! 💪💪
Afternoon! I watched your commission videos and around the terms and condition area, you said you might share your own terms and conditions as a reference. I was wondering if you are still planning to do that, and if not that’s cool too!!
Oh gosh I know this is years too late but if anyone still wants this, here are screenshots of my terms/conditions. AND if you want to copy+paste them, the text will be under the -Keep Reading- section!!
YOU MAY COPY+PASTE THIS AND FEEL FREE TO EDIT IT TOO! Completely up to you, I don't care either way!
Thank you so much for being interested in my commissions! Before submitting your commission request please take a look at the following guidelines:
Commissions are first come first serve. If you need a commission done by a deadline let me know in the commission application and I'll let you know if I can get your commission done in time.
Once I approve your commission request I will send you a Paypal invoice to your email. I will only begin your commission after the full payment is received.
It may take a while for the invoice to be sent. I do not like to accept commission payments if I can't start a commission right away. You will still receive a confirmation email when I receive your request, so don't worry!
I will send you the sketch of your commission to your email in case you want me to change/fix anything. Once the sketch is to your liking I will finish the commission and send you the finished product. You may request a couple of changes to the finished product within 24 hours of it being sent.
RULES:
I will not draw NSFW illustrations.
I do not draw mecha/furry art.
I will not draw gore either!
I will not draw in another artists' art style. If you want to commission me, you are paying for my art style.
There are absolutely no refunds once I start working on your commission. If you think there is a possibility that you might need that money for any other reason, please do not commission me.
Since I was requested to show my process for Style 3, I decided that showing how I make the other styles wouldn’t hurt, so here's the first style.
You can download the Photoshop file for this style here! All the layers, effects, and backgrounds are already ready for you to use and play around with. I would assume you know the basics of how to navigate the program, but I’ll try to take it slow if you’re still new to Photoshop.
NOTE: I made this using Photoshop CS6! I don’t know if it’s compatible with other Photoshop versions, but you can still try to follow along.
Style 1, Type A
To start off, you’ll need the portrait art and the normal attack art of your characters for this wallpaper style. To place your files into Photoshop, go to File>Place>then find where your images are> Place.
Put the portrait artworks into the “Original 1″ group folder, and the attack art into “Original 2″ group folder. I would recommend duplicating those folders before you do anything with them in case you mess up and need to restart.
Now that you put the images where they need to, let’s start editing!
Arrange and resize your desired images to where you want. Make sure one character is above the layer named “Top” and the other character above the layer named “Bottom”. Once you’re done, clip the character layers into the layers below. To do this, you can either right click on the character layer, and then find “Create Clipping Mask” or Press Alt as your mouse hovers over the line between the layers. The mouse will turn into a box with an arrow beside it. And then click to create a clipping mask. It should look like this when it’s done.
If you want, you can even add effects to the character images. I usually would adjust the exposure in the Adjustments. And then just clip that layer above the character layers. Clipping the adjustment layer ensures that it only affects the character layer, and nothing else. You don’t want the exposure effect to affect the background.
Once you’re all set, you can start changing the arrangement of the little diamonds, which are the layers called “Rectangle 1 copy 2″ and “Rectangle”. Duplicate those, however many you want. Then resize and play around with their arrangement to your liking. This is how I made mine. You can even delete them if you want.
After you’re satisfied, it’s time for the color of the background. There’s nothing much I can say for here. It’s mostly just playing around with the layers and layer modes to see which color combo matches your characters. “Layer 3″ is there as a base overlay for your background, but you don’t have to use it. You can even replace it with a gradient.
I messed around with the layer modes, adjustments, and hue of the actual background image (for a shortcut, click on the layer you want to change colors, then press CTRL+U. A pop-up will appear to enable you to change hue, saturation, and value. If the layer is an image, right click and click on “Rasterize Layer” before you CRTL+U), and this is how I made the background for this example. Notice that I didn’t use “Layer 3″ and replaced the Black and White adjustment with the Exposure adjustment.
And that’s how you make type A!
Style 1, Type B
This one’s pretty quick and easy. Place your character images in between the layers named “Swirl copy” and “Swirl”. Then resize and arrange the character images to how you wish them to look like.
For me, it would depend on how the character are posed. In the example with Eldigan and Sigurd above, their swords create parallel lines, and that’s why I made them face each other. In the case with Tiki and Genny, they better fit to look like they’re fighting together, and that’s why they’re facing the same way. For the Morgan example I’m making, I made them face the opposite directions because it made them look more like a duo and mirror images of each other.
If the characters were made by different artists, I would also add in an exposure adjustment to the character layers in order to match the values of the characters with each other. Since both Morgans were drawn by Tobi, I don’t have to do anything. However, you might need to play around. For example, Lucius and Raven. Completely different art styles, but can look cohesive if you make their values match each other. Lucius has more light and shine, so it’s best to make Raven brighter while also darkening his darkest values a bit. You can also boost Lucius’ dark values in order to match Raven.
Now on to the background colors we go!
If you look at the very first layer, there’s a layer called “BtlFace” with Clair on it. She’s there for this purpose. To find the Gradient tool, first find the Paint Bucket tool. Click and hold the Paint Bucket tool icon, until a drop-down menu shows up. Gradient tool should be there, and click on that to start with this step.
To make the gradient for Type B’s background, you pick a color with a dark value, a color that matches well with the first color, and the last is a color with a light value. For the light value, I use Clair’s hair color. Not only because it is light, but also because yellow matches well with a lot of colors.
For this gradient, I chose the colors violet, blue, and yellow. Then I changed the layer mode from Overlay to Vivid Light to make the colors pop more. I usually would stay with Overlay, but sometimes it’s good to play around to see if there’s a better option.
And now you’re done! I hope that tutorial was understandable? If not, feel free to ask questions. My ask box and DMs are always open.
Hi! In you ciel phantomhive you were able to take the render and make change it into lines that followed the same out line of the render. (like how you made the render blue) may I ask how you did that? If you don't mind of course
Heya Anon, i don’t mind at all! always here to help ya’ll. I assume you’re referring to this edit. This isn't my method of choice but it’s easier to explain, so here’s what you do:
i used photoshop k? k. Here we have our Ciel render
what you need to do is open a new layer
now left click on the layer containing the render click on select pixels
now that the outline of the render is selected. select the empty layer (layer 1) and go to Edit > fill
this will open this lil boy
now click on color and select the color of your choice and press okay. tada!
Many have already asked me for tips and tutorials to learn or improve their drawing techniques, but I always thought that just by speaking or indicating my references would never be enough to really help people. In this case, I'm starting to create a series of tutorials so you can follow my tips.
Ohh! Also I would like to say that if you like my work and would like to support me, you can Buy Me a Coffee
Thank you! <3
