a brainworm with @titantread bc I love love love The warm orange glow of a campfire flickered against mossy stone and tangled roots. Days were longer than ever with such fragile bodies to mind. Even if Haku had woken from his comatose state, there was only so far they could travel before his lungs would seize, and he was left gasping for air. Zabuza bore the burden of his low functioning arms alone, the clicking pain just another odd stacked against them. Pickings were meager tonight. A tiny lizard, a few mushrooms boiled down to a simple broth and wild lemon grass was all they had to show for come dinner. Haku's delicate fingers picked at the tiny morsel, distracted by a sound in the brush nearby. It was not Zabuza who had left to secure the area. "H-hello?" He meekly called. There was no sense in trying to hide, and he could only hope he was mistaken or that whatever lurked beyond the periphery was not that final nail in the coffin that would have his journey end here and now.
