I don't know what it says about me but there's this podcast that three times has tried to make it clear with voice actors that a character is trans and each time it went over my head. (Maybe it's been more than three times and I just didn't realize it because the aforementioned over my head.) The first time I didn't realize until months later when I saw a tumblr post about someone trying to explain to the mom that the character "''sounds like a girl""" because he's trans. The second time was when I saw a creator on Twitter responding to apparent backlash accusing them of hiring an actor of the wrong gender by being like "y'all are literally misgendering the actor right now stop it". The third time was the most immediate because it had the PoV character misgender the trans character based on his voice and I was absolutely thrown for a moment because I could not figure out what female character the PoV character was talking about.
