#OnThisDay in 2001 light-middleweight king Felix Trinidad moved up to dethrone WBA middleweight champion William Joppy with a frightening display of power-punching in five rounds in front of his adoring fans at Madison Square Garden. "I have never been hit like that before,'' Joppy said. ''He's a great champion. I never thought he could hit like that. I didn't think he would have that much power coming up from 154 pounds.'' Joppy found himself on the floor in the first and fourth rounds before being finished off in the fifth as 'Tito' claimed his title in a third weight division. ''I knew I was going to knock him out,'' added the Puerto Rican hero. ''I like knockouts and I look for knockouts.'' Trinidad's unbeaten run would finish in his next fight, however, as rival middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins systematically took him apart the following September. #boxing #BoxingNews #JoppyTrinidad #TitoTrinidad (at The Garden)
