First ever comic!
Actually, Thomas Jefferson Jr. is a valid name!
I've seen a few comments going around, complaining that Rick Riordan had a black character named Thomas Jefferson Jr., clearly named after a U.S. founder famous for keeping slaves. I suppose at first glance that might seem weird, or even problematic, but I just want to inform everyone:
That was a very real trend in history! Many black Americans in the 1800s chose to take the surnames, or even full names, of former U.S. presidents; the more famous the better.
The exact reasons for this can be debated, but it is generally thought to have been a way to declare they did not deserve a position as second class citizens. It's how we ended up with many real life black American figures from that era named:
George Washington Carver, George Washington Gayles, Andrew Jackson Smith, James Monroe Trotter, and many more.
In fact, in 2000 the U.S. Census Bureau did a survey of popular surnames and their distribution by race. The "blackest" name in America was Washington, with 90% of Washingtons being black. And Jefferson was the second, at 75%, with Jackson following at 53%.
Lincoln, ironically, was only 14%. And the last name Black, was 68% white.
The 2000 U.S. Census counted 163,036 people with the surname Washington. Ninety percent of them were African-American.

what are the mcga characters’ favourite possessions?
magnus: the photo of his mom from when he was a kid
mallory: after sotd, her knives
gunilla: the necklace from her dad
alex: garotte
tj: either bayonet or sniper glasses
halfborn: the oldest copy of beowulf he could get his hands on (ancient as hell)
blitzen: a stool his father made for him before he went missing
samirah: axe
amir: car keys
hearthstone: a duck blitzen made him when they first met
jack: his personality
Alex : Go ahead, Mallory. Let it out, cry. If you don't, your tear ducts will get blocked up, and then when you get old, you won't be able to cry.
Tj: Just when we thought it was safe to let you back into the conversation.
This post but mcga
Magnus: baritone, but he'd refuse to actually sing. He'd just kinda sit there lmao
Alex: it feels like she'd have a pretty gender neutral voice, so either alto or tenor.
Blitz: bass-baritone. I have no explanation for this one it just feels right
Hearth: ok. So Hearth obviously doesn't talk (verbally), more or less sing. It feels weird trying to assign him a voice type. But if he did, I feel like he'd be in the tenor range. Idk why.
Samirah: mezzo soprano but she can sing alto if needed
Jack: so we all know Jack sings. All the time. But we also know he's not very good at it. Even so, I see him as a tenor 2 for some reason
Mallory: soprano 2, but spends the whole time yelling at Halfborn instead of singing
Halfborn: baritone, but spends the whole time pissing off Mallory instead of singing
TJ: tenor 2. Doesn't always know what going on but he has a nice voice. He's honestly just happy to be there
@drewtanakaed I figured you'd wanna be tagged again? If not lmk though
Magnus: Literally name ONE thing that's better than a dog.
T.J.: Two dogs.
Magnus: SHIT YOU RIGHT.
