#tlok fandom problems

This has been said before but people seriously need to stop seeing Kya as nothing but a ship, it’s so tiring when you actually enjoy her character and people will just constantly bring up Lin if Kya is mentioned.. i mean the whole Kya tag is pretty much nothing but ship art. She deserves so much better and deserves to be seen as her own character. The shippers i’ve seen just do jot understand Kya and only see her as ship material 😭

I see people saying she was waiting to steal Lin from Tenzin, or weird fanarts of them doing shit in front of Tenzin it’s so gross 😭 i’ve also seen art of Kya kissing Lin with out consent and whilst Lin was dating Tenzin (Yes I’m referring to that one comic because that’s just weird as hell and just makes Kya look horrible??)

And with Kya’s comic coming out all i’ve seen is “Oh my god make her and Lin canon!” HELLO? It’s not about LIN? It’s a story on Kya’s character and going into depth about her helping these people that desperately need it. Kya is allowed to be her own character, i wish more people saw that because she is such an amazing character, i absolutely love the idea of a nomadic waterbender, a healer who traveled to find herself and help those who needed it, someone who’s a genuinely compassionate person but isn’t afraid to speak her mind or stand up when she needs to, she’s shown to have such a great relationship with Jinora too, she was such a good support to Korra and Asami, she has a GREAT personality and i wish we saw more of it, i love how snarky she is, i love how sweet she is, i love how empathetic she is, i just love her so much i could actually go on and on but that’s not the point of this post lol

I genuinely don’t believe any of the shippers have an inch of understanding of Kya’s character, yes shipping is supposed to be fun but when you make it a weird fetish like thing by constantly making a SISTER do shit in front of her BROTHER with his ex?? When you make her kiss her brother’s girlfriend, when you mischaracterise her and narrow her to a horny lesbian or a babysitter for Lin.. i can’t stand it. Kya deserves SO MUCH BETTER. I hate seeing lesbians narrowed down to nothing but ships, it’s the same with other big ships too i fear i’d get jumped for saying those however.

Anyway Kya you deserve so much better, and i hope this comic does her that justice<3

Nothing in life will make me hate Tlok's Mako.

Just because a bunch of traumatized people wanted to convince me that the character was "bad" just because.

As if they didn't make mistakes when was a teenager.

What they forget is that I was already a fan of Mako since 2012 when the series premiered and I came back because it's really hard for me to understand the waves of hatred they have for Tlok and most of all for Korra and Mako.

People only care for Kya when she’s shipped with Lin. What is so shitty imo because we have this AMAZING character! And she’s narrowed down to nothing but her sexuality (As a lesbian myself it’s frustrating.) instead of being seen as a genuine character. You look up Kya? It’s all Lin. You talk about Kya? Lin Lin Lin. It gets exhausting as someone who genuinely loves Kya, even her comic announcement all people care for is her swooping in and taking Lin from her little brother? Hello? That’s so weird. All the shippers completely mischaracterise the hell out of Kya too, no Kya would not yearn for 30 years for her little brothers ex, no Kya would not kiss her little brothers girlfriend without consent (Yes i am referring to that one comic too because what, did we even watch the same show with the same character??) A cop for that matter too as if Kya isn’t a canon hippie (Who are usually against cops.) No Kya wouldn’t just like someone for their looks, that’s such a shitty thing to place onto her. No She’s always portrayed as a babysitter for Lin or someone to balance her bitter side, that’s not Kya’s purpose at ALL? No Kya wouldn’t get with someone who clearly still has some sort of underlying romantic feelings for her sibling. Kya deserves someone who’d respect her as a person, respect her feelings and just everything!! Kya is made as a replacement for Tenzin, that’s all she is to so many people.

We have a mixed culture character with a great personality, a character who worked so hard to figure herself out, a very cool healer and waterbender, a character who has pure respect and love for her family despite issues, what is great to see!! but no one cares for that at ALL. I do understand representation is great, i’m a lesbian myself and i am so thankful that Kya herself is one, but don’t completely narrow down a good character for a ship that wouldn’t work out and makes absolutely no sense.

I do mean this in the nicest way possible but i cannot word it that way, i’m just irritated that a character who i love so much is seen as pretty much nothing lol

I’ll say it with my chest. Random opinions I have

Toph is overrated as hell. She’s not OP. And 3/6 of the main characters would absolutely beat her in a fight. (Aang, Katara, Azula)

Zuko is also overrated and not as strong as yall make him out to be. He loses to every one on team avatar except the nonbenders.

Sokka is smart but he’s not this tactician warrior yall make him out to be. One one fight he’s losing to every non mook non bender (Mai, Ty Lee, Suki) all would win.

Iroh is overrated af like I don’t understand why people glaze him so much, he does nothing for most of the damn show.

I love Aang but a fight between Korra and him, Korra is taking it. Sadly. She’s just got much more raw power. Not an easy fight though.

Zutara vs Kataang. I see the arguments for both tbh. The arguments against only ever make sense for zutara. The anti Kataang arguments never make sense (mostly some do). That being said the arguments for Zutara always eat. The anti zutara arguments make more sense (mostly) some are dumb.

Both ultimately are pretty cookie cutter basic ass tropes and idk why people get so up in arms about it. It’s like crying over chocolate vs vanilla the most basic flavors ever that everyone likes or dislikes.

LOK woulda been a better show had they not got screwed over by the network.

All of your headcanons of Kyoshi are dead wrong. She’s not an all action violent girl at all. You don’t know anything about.

Stop looking at the show with modern lenses you’re killing the fun of it

Mako is constantly labeled a “womanizer” when in reality, he’s a traumatized, emotionally stunted teenager who’s never had a stable home, much less a healthy model for romantic relationships. He was navigating feelings for Korra and trying to figure out his dynamic with Asami, someone tied to his team’s survival financially. He wasn’t playing games; he was overwhelmed, underprepared, and trying to make things work the only way he knew how. Yes, he messed up. But some of y’all act like he was a manipulative adult when he was literally a poor, traumatized teenager winging it in a high stakes situation.

People get offended by korra's hate and call the haters misogynists, at the same time they're hating on mako anytime they want like he is nobody

I'll never get stop noticing every time when Kya is referred to as "Aang and Katara's daughter" and people immediately belittle Kya by responding "Oh it's just Aang's daughter".

Like, I can't stop noticing people who not only refuse to let Kya stand as a character instead of an extension of someone they dislike, but also deliberately make the decision to repeatedly drop Katara's name completely when mentioning who Kya's parents are. Kya, who put her life on hold to be with Katara and was her mother's student and interacts with Katara on screen, is only "Aang's kid" to those fans.

Erasing two female characters and reducing them to accessories or less, and then calling that purposeful erasure feminist, is wild.

I agree that TLOK did its female characters like Katara and Kya extremely dirty when its subpar character writing (though that's true for its cast of characters in general), but its fandom being misogynistic on top of that won't make up for it.
