Something I realized: people have been speculating for over a decade on where the female Apes are. IRL, female mandrills and baboons (which the TLOS Apes were based off of) are often considerably smaller than the males We may have been looking at female Apes the whole time.

AND ANOTHER THING: If the Dark Armies are a thing, and they have an entire fleet of ships…does that mean the Dark Navies are now a thing?

Things aren’t completely terrible for Spyro and Cynder, just mostly. They get absorbed into a friend gang of rebellious teen Apes living at the Well of Souls who are sick of having their lives consumed in a forever war and want to escape.

I’m still developing these guys, but I already like them a lot! Art is from March 2020.

It’s really interesting how in TLOS, the Apes have traditional sea boats powered by oars and use Dreadwings for air travel, while the Skavengers, who are much less numerous and much less centralized from what I understand, have a massive technological leg up with their airboats. They can also travel by air using Skurvywings. I dunno, it’s just interesting to look at the little details in TLOS.  

Actually, I might be wrong about the Skavengers being less centralized than the Apes, because all the Skavengers we see report to Skabb’s ship when the gladitorial games are going on, meaning at least they must have stayed close enough to the ships to attend the games at the time. They also all dress mostly the same. Whereas, the Apes are spread all over different regions and adapted to those regions in TLOS with their clothing. Even though Gaul is still their supreme commander and they all answer to him, there are local commanders who are in charge of all the troops in each region.

I’ve been watching playthroughs of ANB and Cynder’s blades/face are EVERYWHERE in the design of the place. Cynder was always an aesthetic™️ goth, especially in the design philosophy of her Tantrum Castle. I headcanon that the apes assigned under Cynder’s command back in the day came from the same families as the dragon-hunting squads, because they were the only ones who had up-close experiences with dragons and survived. The dragon-hunters had a betting pool on when their cousins would finally snap and mutiny against Cynder, but it never happened. Cynder knew how to cultivate an impression and keep her subordinates in their place.

She’s so classy but also completely goth the chain. Do you know why her Concurrent Skies staff stuck around? They were just as goth as her and no other place in the world was as cinematic as under her command. *chef kiss* Pure poetry.

You know what I realized the Apes would probably use. Dragon leather. Think about it. Stretchy, super tough, elemental resistance, comes in a ton of colors.
