i've posted before about how much i laugh about the idea of ellie just. not knowing she has food allergies because of a lack of exposure to potential allergens. she's had a fresh apple like. three times in her whole life. how the fuck would she know they're NOT supposed to be spicy?

but i'm also now laughing about the idea of she doesn't know she's allergic to something so she obviously can't tell joel, and joel is just trying to be a good parent and make sure she gets nutrients, so she picks at the apple slices on her plate the same way she does stuff like broccoli, so he nudges at her until she rolls her her eyes and eats them.

and then later??? is so confused?? when joel is freaking out that there's now hives breaking out over her skin?? motherfucker she TOLD YOU she didn't wanna eat it. she always gets apple rash.

joel and ellie both heading back towards jackson because...what the fuck else are they supposed to do? ellie feels like she has to let tommy know what happened even if she can't focus on anything else, and joel just. doesn't fucking know what else to do. and yeah, maybe he's going to go say goodbye to tommy because he just can't do this anymore.

the possibilities for them both arriving first are equally heartbreaking. i feel like ellie would get there and then just fucking COLLAPSE because she is exhausted and checked out and doesn't know what the fuck comes after this. and joel is just fucking EMPTY. NOTHING there.
