We weren't supposed to be there after dark, but we didn't care and we wanted to have a bonfire...Um, she died that night — there was some runners, and we had less soldiers to protect us. Living in a post-apocalyptic United States ravaged by cannibalistic creatures infected by a mutated fungus and hardened survivors that ran rampant, it was something Billie Jean Miller could handle very well on her own. Looting, scouting, sneaking: you name it, she was capable of achieving it. But a huge lie that been hidden from her caused her to go and forge her own path with an abandoned dog that she saved.

When news about a weary smuggler being hired to transport a fourteen year old girl named Ellie Williams out of a military quarantine zone, Billie Jean knows straight away that she’ll need to cross paths with her estranged family member. However, what starts as a small act of curiosity soon transforms into a brutal cross-country journey.

Benjamin “Benji” Yoon was born December 1st, 1994, to his parents that were immigrants from South Korea in Denver, Colorado. When the Cordyceps brain infection hit, they were safely placed in an operational quarantine zone while his two older brothers had to board themselves up in their college dorms at the University of Eastern Colorado. As the years progressed, Benji’s father who worked for the military died in a helicopter crash during a rescue mission in the mountains. His mother, who had taken an active part of the local uprisings due to the lack of resources and food, had joined the Fireflies to try and find a vaccine.

In the QZ, during his teenage years, Benji had banded together with a group that called themselves “Volun” which was the word volunteer just shortened. They’d volunteer willingly to smuggle items back and forth for the less fortunate like modern day Robin Hoods. On a late night run, they were attacked by a horde of infected and two of the bunch were bitten without telling anyone. The next morning, the QZ was no more, being overrun by Runners. 

Benji escaped with his group that was left, the sum of them finding an old town near Whitefish Lake and trying to make due with living. Their people grew which meant there was more mouths to feed which meant to find a new means to survive. When the leader of Volun suggested that they take in traitors and passer-byers as a source of supplies, Benji had gathered up food and weapons and left in a hurry. 

On his own, Benji meets Billie Jean Miller and her pet dog, the two of them forming a partnership as they head East toward Pennsylvania. On the way they meet more and more survivors, forming their own group called Scavengers that loot old buildings and salvage anything that they can get their hands on. They quickly become a family and are willing to do whatever it takes to save one another. 

When word gets out that Billie Jean’s father smuggling a girl to the Fireflies in Colorado, whose more qualified then the guy who was born and raised there?

Willow Jean “Billie Jean” Miller was born to Joel Miller on October 26th, 1995, in Austin, Texas. Due to severe hemorrhaging, her mother Marina had died at childbirth which left a young Joel struggling between taking care of his two daughters and working a job that hardly kept food on the table. Lending a helping hand, Joel’s brother Tommy helped raised his younger daughter Billie Jean and because of this, she believed Tommy was her father while Joel and Sarah were her uncle and cousin. 

On September 26th, 2003, Billie Jean spent most of the day with Sarah while Joel and Tommy were out on their job. Around midnight, panic and chaos ensued as the outbreak of the Cordyceps brain infection hit; amongst the horror Sarah had lost her life which mentally wrecked Joel and left Billie Jean was scarred emotionally. 

During the early years of the post apocalyptic world, Billie Jean became a hardened survivor that was taught how to kill and deceive under the training of Joel while Tommy constantly tried to remind her that there much more to their lives than just surviving. With their opinionated ways of how to raise Billie Jean, it ultimately sparked a feud between the two brothers which caused Tommy to take the girl under his care. 

While staying with the Fireflies, Billie Jean grew adventurous and extremely curious of many things which gave her the confidence to ask Tommy why they left Joel and what was the real reason. After their own argument, and relentless demanding, Tommy told her the truth that Joel was, in deed, her real father. Feeling betrayed, Billie Jean left Tommy and the Fireflies alone. 

In the present day, Billie Jean had formed her own group known as the Scavengers which consists of three women, seven men, one child, and her pet Dalmatian. They loot old cars and buildings, living in wooden areas where infected don’t reside, and craft their own weapons and supplies from scraps of metal and debris, duct tape and fabric. 

When she hears the news about a smuggler transporting a young girl to the Fireflies from Boston, Billie Jean gathers up her backpack and begins to track down her father to reconnect.
