“Why the hostility? Do you treat every stranger this way?”
He paused in his track, his face marred by a frown upon her question. He spared the girl a quick glance, finding her familiar but just couldn’t remember where he had seen her before. Still, should she really be asking him that, when in the first place they didn’t even know each other well enough.
“Should I be treating all the strangers I meet with care and concern then? Invite them into my residence and serve them with food and drinks, perhaps?” He responded, very tempted to roll his eyes at her. Could she really blame him for being so hostile towards people that he didn’t know? He wasn’t a social person to begin with, and a lot more years of experience taught him better than to be so warm and friendly to strangers when he didn’t know what their motives were. For all he knew, they could be plotting to kill and loot his stuff and he could be dead the very next second if he wasn’t careful.
“You intending to do that?” He gave her a wry smile, and went back to what he was doing previously before he got interrupted by the girl. If only the people were all like that. The world would be a much better place to live in, and he didn’t have to second-guess everyone’s intention. Well, not counting the fact that it was still swarmed with all the infected.
