She was glad he didnât continue question her. Maybe he had accepted her lie, maybe he hadnât noticed it was one. It didnât matter, she wouldnât let it matter.
Her own eyes strayed to their entwined hands â how long had it been since someone did something as simple as hold her hand? Since someone looked at with something else than fear or wariness in their eyes? The look of admiration and trust he was giving her was almost too much.
She wasnât⊠she wasnât the girl sheâd once been. An innocent, scared, sweet girl with a kind heart, clean hands. Her hands now were stained with blood, blood of kids barely old enough to call themselves men.
Well. That didnât matter either.
She looked up when he spoke again, about the food, kissing him back easily and then taking her food.
âYah⊠what was I supposed to do when you surprise me like that?â She gave him a playful punch to the shoulder. How could he blame her after springing that on her? She hadnât exactly expected to be kissed like that by the one person that had held her heart for so long. She ate half of her meat and then offered him a few bites too.
He chuckled, crescent smiling eyes staring preciously at the woman in front of him, as her little punch to his shoulder felt more akin to that of a light prod on him. He reached out to grab her hand before she could retract, bringing it to his mouth and kissing the back of her hand softly.
âYou respond with the same thing back,â he answered coolly, casually playing with her fingers and even studying the rough lines on her palm like they were the most interesting thing ever. And then he looked up back at her with a cheeky smile, one that would rarely appear on his face when interacting with other people that arenât her. Facades that he need not put on in front of her because she deserves the real him.
âFor example, if I kiss you, you kiss me back. It wouldnât be a surprise once you get used to it.â As if to prove his point he went on to steal another kiss from her yet again. At the end of the day they would have to return separately back and who knows how long before he could see her again. He wouldn't want to have any regrets afterwards.Â
âAre you done yet? Do you still want more food?â He swallowed the bites she fed him and then asked. Somehow he still remembers her little habits after all these years, and itâs obvious that he wouldnât want her to go hungry or anywhere near the likes of it. He stared at her with a wide smile. Would it be weird if all he wanted was to just have her in his arms all day long and doing nothing else at all?Â
