Anyone else deeply unsettled by the Entombed parallels? If you’ve got an Alice anywhere in your name in these universes apparently you get the most horrific claustrophobic fates imaginable.
Just finished Episode 132 of the Magnus Archives and I have FEELINGS
DAISY IS BACK AND I LOVE HER EVEN MORE THAN BEFORE AND ITS INSANE BECAUSE SHES BEEN TRAPPED BY THE HUNT FOR SO LONG THAT SHE CANT TELL WHERE SHE ENDS AND IT BEGINS AND WHEN SHE WAS IN THE COFFIN SHE FOUND A VERSION OF HERSELF WHERE SHE WASNT A CRUEL VOILENT HUNTER BUT SHE CANNOT HELP BUT SEE HERSELF AS PREY BUT SHE PREFERS TYE VERSION OF HERSELF THATS PREY MORE THAN PREDATOR AND EVEN WHEN SHE IS IN WHAT FEELS LIKE HELL THAT IS SQUEEZING HER FOR FEAR SHE BELIEVED THAT IT WAS DESERVED
Very glad she's back and I'll be very sad when she dies. I don't know it for certain but I can kinda see it in the arc of her character. This isn't really a series about redemption and second chances. And some spoilers I've seen she seems to be a werewolf which is a bad sign but makes her feel more bloodborne-esque and adds to my love for her. Very Eileen the Crow coded. I hope that she and Basira get some good downtime before then.
It would appear that my preferred brand of blorbo is "cruel lesbian" which probably says something about my gender and sexuality
Anyways!
John deciding to use a rib as an anchor is a wild choice. Like, you could just ask for a pinky toe or something. The rib is feeling a little biblical which isn't a good sign for his humanity.
Also, the episode before this, Jared's voice was so distorted and staticy and punctuated by meat slaps and basey and so fucking British that I gave up trying to understand it.
I think I'm only just now getting why Tumblr is so horny for Martin and Jon. Like they're just a couple of sad wet doomed boys that are so very incapable of expressing their emotions for one another. Like I get it. Not my preferred flavor but I see it.
Also, either the Web itself was the thing that brought them back or Elias, I assume. So if the tapes are a totem of the Web clearly Jons way more wrapped up in the Web than I first expected. Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, Jon is fucking pumped full of contact with entities. The Eye is the obvious one, The Web with the tape recorders, just went fully into the Buried's domain, got fucked up my Jane Prentiss and the Corruption, lost a rib to The Flesh, The End personally spared him in his coma, got burnt by the Desolation when talking to that one lady, got hurled around by The Vast from that one guy, went toe to toe with the Stranger, various encounters with the Spiral, and probably some I'm forgetting. He should get a punch card.
Also, I don't know if this is already a theory already but I had this realization a while ago and it feels right: we, the audience, are the Eye.
Like I dunno if that's intentional or not but it seems to line up. Jon needs to keep supplying us with statements to keep us listening. And while we're not omniscient like the Eye is supposed to be, we're basically always watching. Which I guess, would make the writers The Web. Controlling the narrative, pushing and compelling the characters this way and that. It's a rather elegant bit of meta story.
I've cried during Daisy's statement in MAG132

i like to think he was wearing the most impractical baggy jumper ever just because it was formerly ✨martin's✨
i get so emotional every time i listen to MAG 132, “entombed.” just like, jon and daisy and basira and melanie and love and sacrifice and sometimes forgiveness, or at least acceptance, and remembering who you are, who you could be, who you might become with the help of those around you, in all of the complexity of those relationships that bear within them so much love and pain, and the tapes, the way that the things we have known can become the voices guiding us home, even if we are so very afraid of what waits for us there.
take my hand. reach for your anchor. listen for the tapes. the way forward is closer than you know.
Step 1: take the quote "the blanket never did anything."
Step 2: replace "blanket" with "rib"
Step 3: scream into a pillow
