The (Mis)adventures of Captain Widescreen #1
It is currently 3:55am as I am putting this into tumblr. I can't sleep, so I figured, why not get started on something that I've wanted to do for a while.
These stories are things that happen to me, and my life is mostly a series of unfortunate events, with some comedic relief, and a dash of good days.
Without further ado, welcome to my life.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So today, a girl I don't know well (or like that much) asked me a question. We don't talk already, so I knew automatically from the approach that she needed a favour *cue rolling eyes*
She asked me if I could sign her name on the attendance sheet for a class that we both have. In fact it's required for our program, so it's mandatory. When she asked me, I had 2 reactions: internal, and external.
My external^ face was coupled with the words "Yeah, sure." Mind you, I was being sarcastic. And the poor girl got excited.
Then another girl who was sitting beside her got giddy and asked me to write her name down too. And I was like "yeah sureeeee" again, sarcasm, and she bought it too.
They even went as far as to text me their names, so I could write it on the sheet.
Now you're probably wondering why they had to skip the class, aren't you?
They said they needed to study for a midterm they had that evening.
Now let me tell you the things wrong already:
- signing their names on the said attendance sheet involves two things: your full name, and a signature. How the hell was I supposed to do their signatures.
- they have different handwriting than I do. The professor could easily look at another week of attendance and know the handwriting is different.
- the class is only for an hour. They could easily stop studying for one measly hour and go back to it after.
- the professor who teaches the class is also the academic integrity officer. Yeah, that's right, the one you have to see when you cheat on a test/assignment/quiz and face disciplinary action. I am not getting a mark of academic misconduct on my record, thanks.
- I WAS BEING SARCASTIC WHEN I SAID YES!! THEY SHOULD KNOW DAMN WELL THAT THERE'S NO POINT IN ME TRYING TO SAVE THEIR BEHINDS. AND I'D RISK GETTING MYSELF IN TROUBLE? HELLLLLLLLL NO.
So then I get to class, and tell my friends about that encounter, and we all share a good laugh, because I wasn't gonna sign their names down.
So the attendance sheet comes to me, I write my name down, and then feel my phone vibrate. It was a text from the same girl reminding me to write their names down.
I looked at the message, chuckled, finished doing my signature, and passed the paper on like a boss.
And you know what the best part about that day was?
The class was mandatory.
The moral of the story? If there's attendance being taken, go to the damn class.
