A big central focus in Donnie’s story has been an inability to feel like he fits in, sometimes even moreso than his brothers. And this keeps happening to him, with people he cares about and connects to intellectually. While he’s reconnected with Harold, the same relationship is not th ere, and now he’s finding it happening again with another close intellectual friend who he sees as a peer on his level.
Couple that with this knowledge:
I know this mentions other characters and Jenni and all, but between the implication that Donnie’s PTSD symptoms have worsened (his nightmares and clear phantom pains in I think 102 or 103 as indicators) and this happening with Mona Lisa makes me wonder if something’s not coming for him.
