Medicine in the Glade: Medjack headcanons part 2/?

Despite Jeff technically being the first Medjack, Clint is the Keeper. Neither of them particularly care, being a team of 2, but Jeff doesn’t like the idea of Official Leadership

It’s a toss up between the slicers and the cooks as to who they treat the most, despite Frypan’s best efforts to keep his people from burning or scalding themselves

They have a rotating system for who gets the overnight watch

It was pure luck, but they did find some medicinal herbs in the Deadheads. There’s ongoing debate as to if the creators put them there on purpose or accident

Zart gives them a share of all the garlic that’s grown in the garden

Newt was not the first broken bone they had to deal with, but his break was the worst

Book!Verse: since they’re not under an actual sun, they don’t have sun or heatstroke, but overworking and exhaustion are common. Water, rest, and don’t be a shank are common treatments

Movie!Verse: heatstroke is a concern since they’re in the middle of the Scorch, but especially during the harvest season. Ice, cool cloths, lots of water, and rest are their best treatments. (Seriously how are they in the scorch???? Makes no sense)

Medicine in the Glade: aka medjack headcanons from an irl medjack (part 1/?)

Jeff really did get the job by chance. He wasn’t part of the initial insertion group, but was the only one who took charge when people started getting injured on a regular basis

Clint was the first Greenie who actually seemed interested in what passed as medicine in the Glade. Everyone else didn’t have the patience or the stomach for it

They submit asks into the Box for actual medical supplies on a regular basis but are consistently denied

WCKD gives them the bare necessities: aspirin, gauze, sutures, and bandages

They use Gally’s brew as a rudimentary antiseptic and cleaning agent for suture needles and other instruments

Through a lot of trial and error, they discovered honey’s medicinal uses and use it for wound care

Despite his wishes, Clint has never had the opportunity to amputate

They’re both rather strict on hand hygiene while in the med-hut or when doing wound care

They really truly are trying their best

I’ve been thinking about these for ages, if anyone wants more let me know! Sometimes I can’t turn healthcare brain off and it seeps into everything 😅

I don't remember if this scene is in the books or not but I love how when Newt asks Jeff what’s wrong with coma-Teresa he’s just like “Idk I got my job the same way you did,” Like the implication there is just: bro I’m a medjack because I can apply bandaids, not transplant hearts. So freaking funny. Imagine putting a 15 year old in charge of the hospital for teenagers.
