okay so i really wanted to doodle early puberty tmv raph and donnie being insecure over their body hair LMAO- for different reasons ,, raph as a cis guy wishing he had more body hair because he's a bit insecure (he thinks he needs to be all bulky and hairy) and don at this point in time identifying as a trans girl wishing they DIDN'T have any body hair 😭

they both feel more comfortable in their skin in their later years but i like the idea of them both being insecure as shit- but they probably bond over it lmao poor things

i drew mikey and leo watching tv from chapter 1 + donnie glaring at raph from chapter 2! i wanted to draw lotsa brains/brawns duo today- idk if i have time @__@

that laptop also took 50 years to put stickers on but i had fun!! details!!! :33

they look so different from how i usually draw them since they're 15- these designs are just for canon time progression ykwim? like- when i draw them regularly i just draw their postcanon selves so i don't have to keep changing how i draw them, also because they look better imo LMAOOO sorry boys

raphs buzzcut does him a bit dirty i think. so i think i may actually have his hair grow out longer than i usually draw it and change his design once i update his ref >:]

can't wait for the chapter 3 doodles because AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! AAAAAA!!!! I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT SCENE I WANNA DRAW the vibes r immaculate in my head.

i also have WAYYY more confidence in my art than my writing, my brain doesn't force me to constantly ruminate over it 😭 so posting these doodles is honestly quite soothing it's like... countering the anxiety from writing with the comfort of drawing...

A TMNT 2012 AU in which the Hamato brothers are Utrom mutated by the Kraang using Hamato Yoshi's DNA, moments before he comes in contact with one of the Kraang's lab rats and is mutated himself. They look like humans. They sound, act and fight like humans, too. But things aren't so simple when you're legally non-existent and possibly wanted by the law.

TMV Extras: Prologue

hi! since the prologue was just meant to vaguely set the scene, here is a rather casually-ish worded rundown of what actually happened, plus the reasons why. just picture me sitting by the campfire with you and telling you a story LMAO

it was 1996.

similarly to the 2012 canon, hamato yoshi was walking home from work. he bumped into a man in a black business suit - yoshi briefly apologized, but the man kept walking, with no change in pace whatsoever. yoshi didn't think much of it, until he noticed a strange green glow coming from the rims of the man's suitcase...

he followed the man into a back alley, where he opened the case and pulled out a canister of mutagen, about to hand it to his identical looking colleague... yoshi thought it was just him and the two men, but as he was spying on them, three more of the businessmen had entered the alley after him, taking the same exact path.

he was surrounded.

now, yoshi was in great physical form, he'd been a trained martial artist all his life. however, the men had guns, lined with magenta and shaped like they came straight out of science fiction.

he was outnumbered. the men could've taken him down if they wanted to... but yoshi was a human in peak condition. tall, healthy and strong.

once yoshi was out cold, they took him to a warehouse, connected to an abandoned factory around the outskirts of manhattan. that was where the kraang conducted experiments.

that was where they'd been trying to create humans for years.

there were only smaller teams of kraang stationed on earth, as they were on every planet. it was easier to gain control over fellow kraang and utrom, as they shared the same DNA.

however, the kraang detested the utrom. their bodies were the same, but they differed completely in morals. the kraang preferred a world in which only one of the two existed - by kidnapping and using newborn utrom for their experiments, they could diminish the utrom population, while also getting closer to recreating the planet's dominant species - with improvements made.

they'd combine desirable human traits with their own biology, raise them with their mannerisms and technology; they'd be taken into the kraang hivemind right upon birth, but also blend in seamlessly with humankind.

this time, they had four utrom subjects in their test tank.

yoshi woke up sometime after the kraang had extracted his DNA and infused the tank with it. he looked around for a brief moment, and closed his eyes again.

the kraang had kept him strapped to a surgical table, cold, hard and lined with the same magenta as their guns. they let him go under the assumption he was still unconscious, with the intent to move him into a cage, just about big enough for a human - however, unlucky for them, he was awake.

he didn't think he'd win. he'd been outnumbered before, and he was weakened... but he'd rather have tried and failed than surrendered.

so, yoshi fought the suited kraang droids. he avoided their beams and diverted their aim to shoot each other, then grabbed their guns. he shot two other bots that came in as backup, and where shooting wasn't enough, he'd strike them and send them flying into the kraang's control panel

the impact broke it, causing cages to open and the front opening of the tank to begin flushing out all its contents.

hoardes of other test subjects came flooding out of the cages; stray cats and rodents scrambled around in a frenzy, looking for a way out. yoshi watched his step, stumbled back as panicked animals swarmed his feet. he fell on his back, feeling rats run over his hands and ankles, and as he scooched further and further back,

a cold ooze traced the outline of his hands.

it shot up into him from under his palms and soaked into his skin, flesh and veins.

once it got through to his bones, yoshi's body contorted in ways he didn't know it could.

an agonized scream echoed through the warehouse.

he didn't recognize the scream as his own.

and that's it for the campfire story segment LMAO- after yoshi's mutation, the mutagen eventually seeps into the floor, and he gets up severely weakened and significantly furrier. he finds the boys in the tank and takes them out through the opening, and since they're seemingly human babies, he can't bring himself to leave them there... so, he remains hidden and runs as far as he can, until he finally reaches streets he recognizes, with the four children... miraculously still asleep in his arms.

there's so many questions i could probably ask myself about how the hell he managed to raise these kiddos, if anyone wants a more detailed post on the hamato boys' childhood please, please, PLEASE send me asks! i'd be overjoyed to answer them and add in some drawings...!! (❁´◡`❁)

TMV Extras: Affection in the Hamato Family

since chapter 2 is out now, i wanted to talk about physical and verbal affection within the hamato household!! (i could do this for other households in the future as well... o'neils and jones? or even [SPOILER]? *gets pushed down a flight of stairs*)

there was a part that specifically inspired me to do this, that being when donnie gets up first to hug splinter.

leo

leo is pretty openly affectionate with his brothers! he's not too much older, they're quadruplets, but he does feel responsible to make sure they're all doing okay.

he likes to show his affection through words, but he also likes to give his brothers little pats on the shoulders (specifically mikey and donnie, i think raph grew out of that a bit since it feels like such an older brother thing and raph finds it odd that leo acts like he's so much older.)

he also pays much closer attention to the tone and body language of his loved ones; he can read them better and uses that to make sure they're okay! he's always there if they need to vent.

leo doesn't really actively seek out physical contact for the sake of it though, he likes to just spend time in the same room or talk to convey "hey, you're awesome and i care about you a lot."

though, when he's really, really down... i think a long hug/cuddle in silence is just what he needs.

he also used to cling to his dad a lot as a kid, i feel like he loved to fall asleep on him after a nice bedtime story- he's not so cuddly anymore now but yeah

raph

raph is less open about his affection for sure- not in the way that he never shows it, but in the sense that he's easily defensive about it.

he likes to tease his bros, all in good fun! they all do that to each other anyway lol.

kinda like leo, he likes to give his little bros little back pats or wrap his arm around their shoulders. works better with mikey, since he's shorter and raph perceives donnie at the same exact age level as him, tbh-

mikey is also the only one who loves to hug raph and cuddle up to him when watchcing tv or something. raph stays silent cause he really doesn't mind, but if you ask him about it he'll get embarrassed and say he hates it LMAO

i don't think he was ever super huggy with splinter. probably grew out of it, but you know he loves his dad. if raph (occasionally) listens to you/is willing to do something for you, he definitely cares about you.

donnie

donnie's way of showing affection is looking out for/being there for you. they're always there if you need someone to be excited, be sad or shit-talk people with LMAOO

they will also get very emotional with you if you're close, which can be either good or bad- lmao

also, i've seen hcs that 12 donnie is quite touch averse- funny thing, tmv donnie is the opposite!

touch is a very important thing for him; he struggles to understand his emotions and which ones he's "thinking" or actually "feeling". lemme explain;

something really good happens. don thinks, "this is great, so i'm happy!" logical! but if they don't feel an associated physical sensation (ex. warm tingles in your chest), they start worrying they're not really happy.

this is why in chapter 2, leo nudges him when he starts looking for humans. don tends to worry, and it helps ground him.

don was an affectionate kid, really liked to hug and cuddle his dad and all. i think he liked to lean against and hug his brothers too, though the hugging might've stopped as soon as he realized they were growing out of it and hugs were considered more of a special occasions type thing.

they still love hugs from friends and family, but they're more willing to offer them than to ask for them if that makes sense lol

mikey

mikey's the least hesitant to express affection! he's the youngest so he never felt much pressure to grow out of it i guess...? with everyone else becoming a bit more hesitant to show it, especially raph, he feels inclined to remind his bros he loves them.

mikey will always look for at least one person to sit with, ramble with or cuddle up to while they're doing their stuff.

telling him to back off is kinda pointless, he's still going to smother you with affection LMAO. his affection being rejected can hurt him though- he understands if people need their space but he may get a little sad if it's not reciprocated at all, not even through a tiny shoulder pat or a smile. this is one of the things that gets mikey overthinking a tiny bit.

i do think mikey being so affectionate means he's also the one the others are more openly affectionate with too! yes, even raph, just don't question it.

he still loves to cuddle and hug his papa too! he's the only one who says papa, which is the most childlike or informal way to say father in japanese (donnie and leo say otousan, pretty respectful, while raph says tousan, more casual).

surprise hugs from the back with a curious "yo, whatcha doiiiiin'???" are a totally normal mikey thing- splinter actually loves that, it always gets a chuckle out of him. these two are surprisingly close, also because they're actually quite similar (natural/intuitive fighters, creative, and sometimes huge procrastinators).

splinter

okay splinter is an interesting case- i did want him to be a lot more dad-like than mentor-like, though i don't know if this is that different from the show HAHAHA

his way of showing love is just to look out for his boys, teach them stuff, pay attention to how they're feeling (and he wants them to take care of their bodies goddammit,, looks at mikey's sleep schedule or leo forgetting to drink while watching space heroes- he feels it though, he really does 😭)

splinter can be strict of course but it's only if he thinks there's danger associated with it- he can be a bit lenient when it comes to stuff like skating at home, he knows the boys don't have any other option- but if they end up breaking something he'll scold them just a bit LOL. he wants his boys to grow up responsible, unlike him who pushed his responsibilities aside as a kid and finally had to suck it up as an adult

he leaves the boys their space, but if they need a hug, hey, papa rat's right there for em!!

i'm going to make a post regarding the dynamics between each brother WITH doodles of them soon! very excited hehe
