So I was always under the assumption (do keep in mind I don't follow the story lines very closely) that the planeswalker involved in the duel decks had some kind of altercation (the first one I ever bough was ajani vs bolas ssssooo) so was there some kind of altercation between kiona and elspeth or is it just two walkers in a thing?
well they always have a story to go with it, so we don't know?? more likely it was something that already happened, but it would be awesome if elspeth came back. i mean i figured she was going to have a grand re-entrance, i'm in the boat that doesn't even consider her dead right now but i wouldn't expect anything this quick. so i dunno but yeah, there's always a story to go with it.
i have my theories but for now its really a shot in the dark. unless someone else knows something i dont.
Of the magic blogs that I follow, I definitely look forward to your posts the most
thank you very much!!
Regarding havengul lich: you pay it's activation cost, then you have to pay the creature's mana cost as well to cast it from the graveyard, correct?
Generally, that’s correct.
Havengul Lich doesn’t change anything else about the card except what zone you can cast it from. The Lich has no effect on anything else about the card, such as its costs and timing restrictions.
This means you’re free to combine the Lich with other things that make the card easier to cast (such as Rooftop Storm or Cloud Key) or change when you could cast it (such as Yeva). However, the Lich itself will not accomplish these things.
Thank you for answering the questions! I thought I was right about how it worked and I'm glad that you proved me correct. I did NOT know that you still had to pay the command zone penalty but that's still not awful. Thank you again!!
No worries!
By the way, I use Rooftop Storm all the time in my Thraximundar deck. Paying (2) or (4) for Thraximundar is super worth it.
Ok so with rooftop storm giving you an alternative casting cost for zombies would that work for summoning a commander like Grimgrin?
Yes.
Be aware that anything that says you must do something as an additional cost, you still must do, even if you are paying an alternate cost for the spell rather than its normal casting cost.
Additional costs can be found on cards such as Makeshift Mauler. The additional (2) you must spend for each time you’ve cast your commander from the command zone also counts as an additional cost.
So, for example: Your commander is Grimgrin. You’ve cast him twice from the command zone already this game, and you now control Rooftop Storm. In order to cast him now, you may either pay (0) or pay his normal casting cost, but either way you must also pay the additional (4).
So in the end, you have a choice between paying (4) or (7UB) -- not (3UB), and not (0).
Does that all make sense?
Does then enchantment rooftop storm completely reduce the summoning cost for zombies to 0 or do you still have to pay the colored mana in order to get them out?
Rooftop Storm doesn’t actually reduce or increase what the mana cost is for Zombie spells. Rather, Rooftop Storm gives you an alternate cost you may choose to pay instead of the Zombie’s casting cost. In this case, that alternate cost is (0).
Similar cards that use alternate costs include Abolish, Blazing Shoal and Bringer of the Blue Dawn. You can always choose to pay the regular casting cost for these cards if you prefer.
In contrast, check out cards that actually do reduce the casting cost for spells — such as Ragemonger, Arcane Melee or Blasphemous Act. These effects can’t reduce the colored portion of a spell’s mana cost unless they reduce the cost by that specific color.
