They sit in the Great Room in front of the fireplace. Miracle is enthralled by the flames, watching them from the safety of her Godfather’s arms.
“To hold a little one, to feel new life, it was something I could never imagine again.” He softly says. Claire lays on Jamie’s lap, sleeping. Jamie nods.
“I know. This whole situation is crazy, in such an amazing way that I can hardly believe it is real. Speaking of, I want to talk to you about keeping it real, keeping them safe.”
“Still worried about Randall?”
“Aye, him and lunatic Leery. If he was crazy enough to follow you here, what else is he willing to do?”
He nods sagely, adjusting Miracle, into his arms while she falls asleep. “Aye, he doesn’t seem to be the type of bloke to give up.”
“No.” A deep sigh as he looks down at his wife then over to his daughter. “and we know Leery isn’t.”
“Aye,” he lays, a now fully asleep, Miracle down in her bassinet. “so what do you want to do?”
“With a hundred acres there is no way we could patrol it all, even if I didn’t need to be here for them and we weren’t doing renovations. So, I would like to bring the lads in. Angus, Rupert, John.”
“A grand idea, even if Colum may wish to kill you.”
“He won’t be happy.” He drums his fingers on his thigh, thinking. “Maybe we can bring McKenzie Shipping here.” Murtagh eyebrows shot up. “I know it seems crazy but I envision more then just a place to keep us safe. I would like Lallybroch to be a community to keep all safe that want out of this insane system. They will need more then just farming to live on. I know he is frustrated, that he and his wife would like a child too.”
“A lot of work but doable, over time. I love the idea. The community of Lallybroch, a safe place.”
Jamie smiles broadly. “Just so. Will you go talk to them in my steed? Bring Colum and the others here?”
“Aye. Let’s get them more protection.”
