The Originals: The Awakening

Look who finally got to watch the ‘Kol’s’ webisodes. As they say, better late than never.

There wasn’t anything really new in them, but I liked this slightly expanded insight into Kol’s shenanigans of the early 20th century with the witches of NOLA.

Rambling of the things I might not want to forget under the cut.

Basically we got a crash-course summary of the situation: Kol, having been daggered in 1821 (as seen in 2x02) was revived in 1901 and, being very pissed, started plotting Klaus’ take-down (well, temporary, to give him a taste of his own medicine), causing a war between two witch factions: his and Klaus’.

He had Mary Alice Claire (wrapped around his little finger or so he thought, there were kisses involved) and Astrid practice a new kind of dark magic to make various dark objects we’ve seen on the show (such that very useful ‘thousand cuts’ device Marcel used to kill Cassie/Esther and save Hope with) in order to make a dagger that could put Klaus to sleep.

Unable to do it, Marcy Alice and Astrid deemed they needed a bigger diamond for more energy. Which just so happened Genevieve gossiped about being in possession of a certain dowager Fauline, who never left her home except for Sunday Mass.

So, of course Kol slaughtered half the parish (he didn’t know what she looked like and he was thirsty!) so he could enter uninvited and did actually find and stole the diamond with the help of the two witches.

Alas, Klaus caught him at it and daggered him again (as we saw in 2x09) while one of his witches shut Mary Alice and Astrid into the Fauline cottage with a spell. And thus the cottage became the notorious ‘sanctuary’ for the witches who taught to be insane.

And the last part ends with Mary Alice lamenting her foolishness with sealing Kol’s tomb of experimental magic with a spell that required a Claire witch to open it (as we knew from the show). For she might not have been insane, but she was crazy enough to betray one Mikaelson while not seeing another sneaking behind her and stabbing her in the back.

Yeah, well, that the lesson everyone should remember: no matter how much original siblings plot against one another, if one goes after one of them, it doesn’t end well for that person.

On the whole, these were altogether entertaining 8 minutes, very Kol-like, and a nice little reminder of things past and I’m glad I’ve finally watched them just in time before the show returns this week (and I’ve seen some spoilers Kol should be in the episodes to come this season.)
