Pondering Womanhood
To be woman is to be disbelieved or talked over in your doctor's office, no matter your illness or pain. To be a woman is to be vulnerable in a delivery room while your doctor surgically alters your body for your husband's pleasure, with you unaware, no matter your future excruciating pain during intercourse. To be a woman is to be paid less, no matter that you do the same work. To be a woman is to be charged a luxury tax for menstrual products, no matter the inevitability of your bleeding. To be a woman is to be told you can't get a hysterectomy because your future husband may want children, no matter that your pain is debilitating, you don't want a husband, or that you don't want children. To be a woman is to be dismissed, disrespected, and devalued, no matter what.
