Toby is shot and passes out from blood loss, is psychically overwhelmed by all the people in the hospital, and nearly collapses while attempting to convince Oz that he's fine.
@juneofdoom Day 4 - "It's really not that big of a deal."
Oz's voice shaking while they wheel Toby in, "I'm not happy with this whole shooting thing" - great stuff.
Putting this gif here 'cause it's one of my fav scenes from the show^ But yeah! Does anyone remember this gem? This show is called The Listener. It's available on Tubi for free to watch as well as on Youtube free. Anyways...I was wondering if there are other people/fans who remember the show 'cause I was totally thinking of writing a fanfic for an alternate end to the series (cause tbh imo the show ended kinda poorly...all of season 5 was actually kinda a letdown tbh) and I wanted to see if other people would like to read that.
Anyways, for those of you who don't recognize this show and are intrigued by the scene in the gif, let me do what I do best! Recommendation time! Read below for what makes this show a must-see!!🤩
Soooo...buckle up cause this show is one heck of a rollercoaster! First and foremost, the show's about a paramedic (Toby...whose name may or may not actually be Toby...eek! No spoilers!🤫🤫🤫) who has the ability to read people's minds. As you could predict, this becomes overwhelming at times cause he can actually somewhat emphasize with the pain of the people he's helping. While he starts out in the series as a paramedic, he slowly starts to get more and more involved with the cops because...well...he honestly has the WORST Superman complex I have ever seen for a character and he just can't stay away AT ALL from trouble.
Sooo A SLIGHT SPOILER AHEAD!!⚠️⚠️⚠️
He ends up kinda moving away from the paramedic scene in later seasons (which is one of the reasons I'm a little peeved at this show tbh...cause the paramedic thing was soooo unique for a cop show and them changing that ugggh! It made me upset...anyways) and becomes an IIB consultant (basically Canadian FBI) who helps them solve cases with his gift.
Even though things change a lot season to season (he stops being a paramedic...some actors leave the show, etc) the core characters that I really enjoyed stay the same...so at least that's something!
One of the main reasons I liked this show was for the whump it provided early on (I feel like they could have gone waaaaay further with it than they did, however, but I am also just a huge glutton for whump...hence why I may write a whumpier series end fanfic). I also enjoyed the new characters brought on by the IIB storyline (their boss is kinda lowkey hot🥵 ahem...I didn't say that heh) and I feel like even though there were a crap ton of plot holes and bunnies, the core main characters kept me invested till the end.
Overall, I wouldn't give this show 5/5 stars...HOWEVER, I got to give it a lot of credit for what it did well. It had an amazing lead character (Toby), a really interesting concept (paramedic-cop-telepath lol), and great side characters (love love loved Oz, Klein, Becker, Charlie, Michelle, and Dev...and Tia was good later on too). So, def a 4/5 rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ only because the plot was too hole-filled at times and it totally could have had more emotional depth than it did. Still a must see in my opinion! Especially cause it's so easy to find available to watch free!
