Heres an unpopular idea. What if instead of jumping to blame guns when shootings occur, we start noticing the issue within the society.

When I was younger, I used to play on that myscene site and I had the movie. I remember my favorite character being Madison who was a POC. I didn’t realize at the time how much of an issue that could be. She was a fierce black woman who was, though heavily into fashion, very close with her friends and always wanted to do the right thing. If I remember right, there was an asian girl named Delancey. I was thinking back on it and it made me realize, we are not born racist. I still support People of color, and LGBTQ rights, and anything in between. I grew up not knowing that there was racism in the world because I was never taught that it was bad. You were still a person and would be treated with respect until you didn’t deserve it. I didn’t know that some people didn’t think it was okay to be black, or asian, or latino/a. I was never taught that it was unnatural for a natural born man to be a woman or vice versa.

These issues are still very present in the world right now, but I didn’t learn about these issues from those around me because I was raised that it was okay to be LGBTQ or of a different race.I guess you could say I was sheltered.

The point I’m trying to make here is that my dad is an asshole, but my parents did not raise me to be hateful or racist. They taught me that, though people earn respect, I must be respectful to everyone. And I stand by that today. It is important for us to raise our children to be open minded. To tell them that it is okay for these natural things to happen and that we should accept them with open arms.

Maybe, in order to change the world for the better, we need to raise a better world.

And in the same breath, I would like to acknowledge that as a white person, I have white privilege. I’m sorry. I am one person who can’t even legally sign a petition yet. I am a white woman, and therefore have less. But I can walk down the street and not have to worry about cops being after me for “looking suspicious.”

I am so, so sorry that you have to go through that and I will continue to fight for your rights as PEOPLE. You are just as important as me or any other white person. For now, know that though I may not understand your fight as you do, I will stand and hold your hand and fight along side you. That is all I can offer, and I hope that one day you get the freedom you deserve. The freedom you’ve worked so hard for.
