Mr. Loewen: I’d like to talk about our parks here. I like to promote them everywhere. As for the K pass, it’s under review with a new Premier and a new crew. We want to ensure it’s fair and good and accomplishing all that it should. Viewing a mountain, its peaks like a steeple, it’s a fact that parks are for people.

UCP caucus boots two MLAs critical of government, Kenney's leadership

The United Conservative Party caucus has booted out two outspoken MLAs from among their ranks after a public call for the premier to resign.

A member of the United Conservative caucus is openly challenging Alberta Premier Jason Kenney’s leadership to save the party from an election loss to the NDP opposition, he said Thursday.

Senior backbencher Todd Loewen posted a letter on Facebook in the pre-dawn hours Thursday calling on Kenney to resign. Hours later, he said many Albertans have lost trust in the premier, and rather than listening to their concerns, Kenney cancelled two caucus meetings without explanation.

“I didn’t want to do this, I didn’t want to have to do this, but I feel that I had to in order to save this party and have this party continue on so that we can make sure the NDP aren’t re-elected in 2023,” said Loewen in a radio interview on 630 CHED.

Mr. Loewen: As this House knows too well, Albertans, our jobs, and our prosperity have been under assault for some time. For more than a decade there has been a well-organized and foreign-funded campaign to land-lock our resources and shut down our largest industry. Those who oppose the economic interests of our province have conducted this campaign in many ways: they have campaigned against pro-resource governments, they have engaged in endless obstructionist legal action, and some, the more extreme elements, have even engaged in criminal activity in their attacks on the livelihoods of Albertans. These hypocrites travel the world in jets, live in heated and air-conditioned homes, and use all sorts of products made from our natural resources.
