No One Is Coming To Save You
A few years ago I was reading an article about the common fears and anxieties we all face in our day to day lives. The author made a comment that jumped off the page and smacked me right in the face. He said, 'no one is coming to save you, you're on your own.' A little harsh right? It's not exactly the kind of thing we want to hear. But guess what? He's right. As a child I always felt safe. I knew my mom & dad were there to feed me, provide a roof over my head and to protect me, which was awesome! I didn't have to worry about anything. Unfortunately, that feeling can find it's way into our daily lives and how we view the world as adults. Even if you're lucky enough to have a supportive family, great friends and a huge network of professional colleagues, you have to embrace the reality that you, and you alone are responsible for YOU.
I'm certainly not implying that we all won't receive help and encouragement from time to time, and in fact, we should all be willing to offer help and advice to others as well. But as my virtual daily productive guru Todd Henry from The Accidental Creative says in a recent post, "No one else will fight for your work like you will. Period. You must be prepared to go 12 rounds, if necessary."
