this was such an incredibly raw moment for hawks, i just hate how they did it in the anime. this wasn't about supporting midoriya or wanting to see their side win, it was about the emotional connection between these two characters. and that isn't a shadow behind hawks, thats a fucking bloodstain from dragging himself to tokoyami's side. i know it was such a small panel, but this is the most vulnerable moment we got from hawks in the entire manga, its such a shame it wasnt animated

It wasn't typically unusual for your husband to leave for work at the very first second dawn breaks, to only be back to your shared penthouse by the time every single star was already up and about in the sky.
It made you feel awfully lonely, sure, but it was admittedly worse when Fumikage accepted the nightshifts instead...
Your bed was never fully warm during those kinds of days. You'd go to sleep without that beloved goodnight of his, toss and turn thinking of whatever Tokoyami might be doing and only wake up right as your husband walks into your home; body exhausted and mind vexed with the events of the night.
But even so... Knowing to separate being the Jet Black Hero: Tsukoyomi and just being your husband was highly important — for him and even more for you. Fumikage was a romantic at heart; a poet with a muse always had his heart busy. Even if he came home at night, he'd immediately leave the abode with you by his side — having planned a date somewhere fancy, maybe hidden the way he likes it. You wouldn't ask for it any other way. Actually... You looked forward to it. A lot.
Although it was a bit... Well, silly, during Fumikage's dayshifts, a bottle of red wine was poured into a tall crystal glass, and you'd sit down by the balcony or lean against the railway to look down upon the city as you took small sips of the liquor. Each counting a different minute as if you were making up an imaginary countdown there was no limit to.
Waiting for your knight clad in dark armour to return.
And all that waiting did pay off... Because, soon enough, Fumikage showed up. As always, returning back to his one and only.
Patrol had been eventless, to say the least. Endless hours of lurking in the shadows waiting for some villain to make their grand appearance were wasted when Tokoyami's shift ended- He wasn't protesting, not at all! In fact, he was ecstatic. Cloaking Dark Shadow in the black abyss of his cape as he ripped through the nightsky. But not before making one small stop to a particular store before going home.
Fumikage had been falling behind a bit on the romance road he was in with you... But that meant all the more to make his returns much more dramatic and surprising to you, as he usually did.
A bouquet of deep red roses wrapped in dark paper tightly grasped in his arms, pressed right into his chest as to not lose a single petal during his flight — you deserved only the best of the best — the flowers had to be pristine.
But they could never compare to how perfect Tokoyami saw how you looked- Leaning against the railway of the high balcony, and although your back was turned to him as you faced away to the entirety of the twinkling artificial lights of the city, he was still seeing the same beauty he fell in love with years ago. The way you propped your arms on the black railway, wind blowing gently at your frame, crystal glass filled with shimmering wine twirling boredly in your hold.
It was a perfect moment.
You hadn't even noticed Fumikage descending down from the skies... Stuck in your own thoughts and daydreams, paying only close attention to whatever was happening down at the floor level of the town.
Only when a single, dark toned rose slowly appeared from above in your field of vision did you perk up immediately- A soft but big grin breaking through your once resting face as you carefully plucked the rose from the pale fingers of the one holding it. It was thorn-free... Tokoyami removed the small prickles before giving them to you. That made you smile even wider.
But before he even reached the ground- Dark Shadow was already shooting out from underneath his host's cape, an excited but strident call of your name splitting the air as the shadow was soon to wrap around your torso.
"Man, patrol was sooo boooring! Me and Fumikage missed you so muuuch!!" You all but looked unfazed by Dark Shadow's clinginess and complaints, already all too used to it by now. You could only giggle as Shadow buried himself at the crook of your neck — while Tokoyami just shook his head looking all too disappointed. Countless years were spent being greeted like this, so much it had become the normal routine of him and Fumikage. He, of course, let the smaller bird do as he pleased.
"Missed you too, Shadow." A careful hand came to softly pat down the sentient quirk's beak, but your attention quickly shifted back to your beloved husband — now standing fully before you. "So my Hades has already arrived. Thinking about getting me out of winter and heading to bed?" The slight teasing tone of your voice made Fumikage's own smile quirk up into a smirk, bringing him closer to you to wrap his hands firmly around your waist.
"Ah, but the night is still young, don't you think, Persephone?" You giggled as Tokoyami brought his beak close to your face, and you leaned your forehead against it's smooth edge, so you were directly eye to eye. "Interested in another small trip to the underworld with me?" You followed the gentle motion of his hand, pointed towards the flashing city below you.
But the sweet moment did not last once you pulled away- A brief look of surprised running over your eyes as you peered into Fumikage's own ones.
"As of... Right now?" Your voice was hesitant.
Tokoyami only gave a small nod in response — the stoic but yet confident look on his face never once leaving.
"But I'm in my PJs already..."
"Don't worry! That only makes you hotter!" The living shadow still hovering right on you spoke up, making you giggle again as the man before you sighed, exasperated, like an exhausted parent. Before softening his tired scowl to look back right at you again.
"... Don't fret, beloved. We will not be at the eye of the public." And you could clearly see his honesty behind those words- Because he, just like you, knew exactly where and how to keep lurking in the shadows and go completely unnoticed. If Tokoyami grew up to not be the same boy you met in highschool, you'd think he had learned those schools from being an underground hero.
And how could you possibly say no to him when Fumikage had his hand already outstretched to grasp yours, ready to take you across Elysium?
So with a sigh and a smile, an elegant hand was placed in his own. And he grasped it — comforting, relieved, content with being reunited with his Persephone once again.
So when your husband finally lifted you into the air; Dark Shadow first grabbing a tight hold on you alongside Tokoyami's own hands to ensure your safety — you knew it. Fumikage would always leave you by day. Sometimes by night.
... But at the end, he'd always return to take you back to the underworld with him.
