1LDK apartments. is situated in the laid back river neighbourhood of Nakameguro in south west Tokyo, in close proximity to Shibuya, Ebisu, and Daikanyama. People might regard 1LDK as the main shop, offering largely men’s clothing and an odd assortment of well curated foreign magazines and independent zines in one corner of the shop. However, across from 1LDK is the more spacious 1LDK apartments., which also houses the lovely restaurant/cafe/bar taste and sense.
How to get there
Take the main exit of Nakameguro Station, you should be right underneath the train tracks on a main road with a pedestrian crosswalk infront of you. Cross the street and take the right side of the train tracks, walk straight ahead and you should see the river infront of you (you’ll pass by a lovely bakery Ecole Criollo Nakameguro on the right.) The main Nakameguro area with restaurants, cafes and shops would be along this river. Anyway, continue along and take the first left which should be after a 7-11 store to your right. A few more meters and you’ll find 1LDK apartments. to your left.
Myself at one of my favourite places on earth, shot by Nana of OhMyTokyo
I've always believed that Nakano Broadway is somehow a microcosm of Japanese society, and I still do. A lot of people have posted about Broadway online, calling it a nerd Japanese mall but it's so much more than that. If you've visited Japan a few times already or have already done all the touristy things, then this is one place you have to go to.
If you're starting out your Tokyo trip, then this is a really good place to kick it off. It definitely ticks all the boxes off urban sightseeing and will get you to explore food, shopping, art, people watching. Explore the different facets of Japanese culture and its many urban subcultures, from anything pop (celebrities and anime) to the downright strange (military paraphernalia and, again, anime).
Here's a short list of shop recommendations and what to expect to find at Nakano Broadway.
Shopping
The shōtengai (japanese shopping arcade) you have to walk through to get to Nakano Broadway is famous all over the nation - Nakano Sun Mall. What for exactly, I don't know, but it has tons of shopping from Uniqlo to random mom-and-pop shoe shops.
Okashi no machi-oka in Broadway
On every floor at Nakano Broadway you'll find shops selling leather goods, clothing (mostly grandma clothes), stationery, and other knick knacks. It's also noted for second hand luxury goods shopping - fear not for these shops are legit. In terms of pop culture (anime and manga) this is also where you go for collector items from posters to figurines. On the first (ground) floor, a couple of metres from the main entrance you'll find a shop called Okashi no Machi selling Japanese snacks for a discounted price. If you want to sample different Japanese snacks, this is the place to go. Right by the entrance, past a cafe called Cafe Miyama you'll also see a shop that specialises in green tea - if you won't get the chance to drop by Kyoto then just grab some tea from here. There are more varations than you can think of.
A shop called 'Back to Mono' on the 3rd Floor of Nakano Broadway (homes.jp)
From the main entrance you'll see escalators which will take you straight to the third floor. There are bookstores and stationery shops on this floor selling lifestyle goods in the spectrum of beautiful-to-cool: notepads made from tofu, Harris Tweed bags, artisan ceramic tea sets.
Tacoshe (Ta-ko-sheh)
You'll also find a little bookstore calledshé towards the back (walk straight up the aisle from the escalators) selling zines and other independently published art books .
There are also lots of stores selling anime merchandise (mostly collectors'), old used manga, military paraphernalia, funny t-shirts, and nanoblocks. One of my recommended ones is a shop called BLOX right by the escalators on the 3rd fl selling some Japanese pop art merch among many others - Ninja Turtle Leggings? Yes. Sailor Moon Shirt? Yes. R2D2 Backpack? Yes.
For audiophiles (Fujiya Avic Part 3 or in Japanese, Fujiya Eh-bikku) and musicians (Fujiya Avic Part 2) there's also a shop just selling headphones - there should be used and brand new ones so you can ask around; as well as a shop specialising in video gear.

Check back in the next few days, I'll be posting more Nakano broadway recommendations!
Meanwhile, if you have some Nakano snapshots feel free to share them by photo replying!
