What must be the height of human tolerance? A question that is often approached with much difference of opinion, some advocating zero tolerance and some advocating the opposite spectrum. Though the situations and circumstances can each vary from person to person and time to time, this morning, I was suddenly taken back to this tradition passed down to us.
'As if I could see the Messenger of God (prayers & peace be upon him), while he was narrating about a Prophet from the Prophets of God (may the prayers & peace be upon them), his own people hit him with severe blow, and made him bleed, and he was wiping the blood off his face praying: "O God, forgive for MY people, for indeed they do not know!"
I do not know which must be weighing heavier on God's scale: the blood that he was wiping off his own face or the tears that were streaming down his eyes or the tongue that was murmuring prayers for them...and we still think that we have displayed enough tolerance to our fellow humans. Did you notice the prayer, even when the blows were coming, the word that left his mouth was "MY" people, forget about seeing them as opponents or foes or enemies, he never separated that bond of association and connected them directly to him despite all their rage, hatred, rancour, animosity and aggression. The standards have been set too high for us, simply flies off my head in comprehension knowing well how little of patience I have...sighs!
