Brian was at Redlands with Tom Keylock. He must've been astounded to get a call from Mick, the cynical, mocking Mick whom he hated. But there was another side to Mick, and that was the Mick who was on the phone to Brian saying, "How have you been, man?"

Brian was just delighted. He was always pathetically grateful for any tiny crumb of kindness and he responded effusively. He opened like a flower. "Oh, Mick, how lovely, please come down and have dinner with us." So that's what we did. We got into the Bentley and off we went. The intention was fine.
