This tactile manner made William uncomfortable because Meghan hugged him virtually every time they bumped into each other; the hugging and cheek-kissing fuelled gossip among the staff that Meghan was flirting with William, which she was obviously not, but the tense atmosphere caused by all the touchy-feeliness (and the resultant gossip) deepened the rift between the brothers

I’m speechless 😶

It does feel revisionist, especially when you consider all the times she was caught lusting over him at public appearances and what the aristo gossip has been.

Oh god. I don’t where to start… no parameters given…

I want to talk about Spooks and Spells. I have been a long time Spooks fan or MI5 and have watched the whole series or started rewatching the whole series like five or six times. I’ve always felt insecure about tipping my toe into that world because of how fast paced and tight the storylines are. I used to write a lot of action scenes, episodic like fics and Spooks scared me.

Until Unknown Element. It took place more in the villain’s world and I planted the characters in it but had more control over that because they were in my world instead of me having to fit into theirs. That’s helped.

I bring that up to say that Spooks and Spells is like that also. I created a world and plopped Tom and Harry into it. Some of the rules are the same but a lot of them are my rules and my terms and they’re just reacting to that.

I also love this piece because of the betrayal element (coincidentally, Unknown Element is also a betrayal fic of a different kind) but the personal raw hard bitterness of finding out that the person’s closest to you has been keep this big secret but you still are fiercely passionately in love with them, what do you do? Because that passion doesn’t go away but neither do your feelings about the betrayal. It’s a mess but it has a purpose mess of a fic.

I also love the supernatural elements of it as well. I don’t want to give too much away but it unfolds like an onion as we see it through Tom’s eyes as the newbie and Harry’s whose are being opened to the fact that the government doesn’t know everything about witches.

I spent some time on world creation but not a whole lot being urban fantasy so that was fun to be able to create but within parameters so I didn’t get clogged down with the heavy weight of building a world from scratch and knowing how every detail worked.

You can be born a witch - natural inborn talent.

You can use spells - learned witch,

Or you can acquire your power through the suffering of others - dark witch, dangerous addictive power.

Every witch that is born has some kind of natural talent in addition to using spells, so it both inside of you and something you learned to do as well. I have some ideas for Isabella but also haven’t set the whole thing in stone yet which is FUN.

It’s still a WIP at the moment. Most of the bones are written but finding a moment this new year to complete that structure has been hard.
