R.I.P. Tommy Docherty (1928-2020)

Tommy Docherty was the man who led us from relegation in the First Division (what the Premier League was known at the time) in 1973 to instant promotion from the Championship in 1974, by which Manchester United never looked back since, and won us the FA Cup in 1977.

Tommy Docherty passed away yesterday on New Year’s Eve, aged 92. He will forever be known as the man who made Manchester United rise from the ashes and ensured they remain a Premier League club to this day, carried on by the likes of Dave Sexton his successor, then Ron Atkinson and Sir Alex Ferguson.
